Halloween Confessions.

Last year I waited until last minute to do my costume.

We always have a big family Halloween party and we aren’t kidding around. It gets pretty competitive and even the most self-satisfied party pooper wouldn’t dare to show up in a “this is my costume” t-shirt.

So when christian, my dad and I found ourselves hours pre-party and still sans-costume, we had to get creative. If you don’t go all out on the actual outfit you had better think of something funny or cleaver. Ultimately we decided to go with the theme “Famous people who died this year.” Which fit my basic criteria: spooky, pop culture relevant and easy.

I went with Amy Winehouse:

My dad was Steve Jobs:

And Christian… was Bin Laden.

Don’t judge me! It’s Halloween, OK!? I was up against a time crunch!

Anyway, I want to do a tutorial for some fun costume makeup so I thought I would ask you guys what you’d like to see the most… IDEAS PLEASE!

I am going as Miss California in a beauty pageant. I am wearing a long black formal I found at Ross some years back for $11! But I am not entirely sure what I want to do about makeup. I know I want to use plenty of bronzer/self tanning cream, to get that fake tan, Cali girl glow. Not sure which yet…probably the bronzer as I will have to life with the tanning cream for longer than just one evening. Yikes! Anyway, hope this idea is useful. Any suggestions would be great! Happy dress up!

You should do a baby doll with big doe eyes and Rosie cheeks or a sugar skull tutorial since that’s all the craze lately!!

I agree with Liz Ford, that’s exactly what I was hoping to see, a doe eyed doll or a sugar skull….hoping for a pale faced doll look as it would be less work! heeheehee

    Cleopatra!!

  14. I went as Beyonce from her Single Ladies video one year. Fun hair, easy costume, and with the silver glove (spray painted) everyone knew who it was. The only problem was that no one would let me into the party until I danced my way in…

  15. Ally says:

How about an indian maiden/ indian princess (native american). Long feathers in your hair, maybe some cute, feminine war paint, w/light makeup. Or heavy eyeliner/makeup…for a sexy cherokee babe! Your coloring, and gorgeous black hair would make that really easy!!! I’m searching everywhere for how to do some “war paint”, that look really cool, but still very cute! If that makes sense. lol

  16. Rebeca says:

Cleopatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Brigette Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, you know- Old Hollywood type makeup!

I’m throwing a roaring 20′s speakeasy party this Halloween, and I’m doing some major flapper dress up. I need some 20′s glam makeup, because I’m going all out. ANNNND…If you know an easy way to do those fake bobs, i’m all ears. I’ve been trying a couple tutorials but they aren’t working for me. I need that boyish bob cut down pronto!

Plus, since you are a magician with hair and make up….I’m counting on you

  26. Johnie says:

I originally found you through a Pinterest pin, and was hooked! I have almost read your whole blog now, and I’m better for it. Loved it even more when I found out you were from Utah and LDS. And I too, am addicted to long hair. ANYWAY– I’m a cat every year for Halloween- it’s simple, but my cat glasses got broken last year by one sweet and wild child. I’d love to see some good cat eye makeup- and also another had a Marilyn Monroe suggestion, and I’d like to see that whether it’s Halloween or not, maybe Cleopatra too! Keep blogging, I just love it. I love how open and real you are and willing to share what you know. Thank you!

First of all I have to say I’m pretty much in love with your blog, I too stumbled upon it through Pinterest. I work in a male-dominated field, so finding a line between pretty and professional is sometimes hard for me, but you have so many great ideas on here!!

For Halloween I decided to be a “sexy firefighter” and I’m again finding myself with a dilemma. I’ll be going out with the college bar crowd, plus a bunch of (actual) cops and firefighters, but how do I walk out the door with envy-inducing makeup, without looking like a hooker? …because let’s face it, most college girls dress up as hookers for Halloween, whether they mean to or not.

A tutorial for classy makeup that could be used with any “sexy” costume, and photographs well in bad lighting would be awesome! …if it’s not impossible.

  37. Katie says:

I’m being a flamingo as well do I’d love to see a fun pink makeup look to go with it!

  38. Brenda says:

I know it’s nothing extravagant, but I’m going as a German Beer Girl. Not sure of how to do my make-up for it. Any tips would be helpful and thanks! I love your blog!

  39. chelsea says:

    Cat eye makeup please!

  40. Genessa says:

I know this is not Halloween related or even makeup related but could you please teach us (me!) how to do this (http://www.stylebistro.com/lookbook/Cheryl+Cole/y4cdCRiMIkR/Short+Wavy+Cut/angle/wBhAc8pWJGS) to our hair? I’m not blessed enough to have long beautifuy hair like you and your tutorials just don’t look right with my shoulder length hair. Pleeeease help a girl out?
