I am sitting here trying my hardest to find the words to tell you guys about all of the changes on my blog lately.
My followers mean so much to me and I owe you an explanation.
It’s a tough situation, because I want to be honest and candid but I also want to have respect to those involved.
So I am just going to tell the story…and leave the swear words out:)
For a few years now I have had a beauty product idea that I have been dying to create. Problem was I never had the money or the business know-how to do it. Then, a few months ago a couple friends of mine approached me to become investors and create a partnership.
I was so so excited.
I jumped in with both feet! I finally had someone who believed in me and my ideas!
Shortly after we began working together changes began to take place that I wasn’t comfortable with.
The change from Maskcara to Chisel Beauty, for instance, was hard for me to take. I didn’t like it.
From where I stand now I realize that I made a lot of mistakes. I needed to stand my ground but instead I pretended to be casual and laid back about something that I am not the least bit laid back about. The integrity and authenticity of my blog.
As time went by more changes were being pushed, and I began to feel that my opinions and ideas were not valued.
I felt like I had to fight for my blog constantly.
As much as I wanted to build a business and create a product I wasn’t willing to sacrifice the integrity of my blog to do so.
I would just never do that to my followers.
To earn someones trust is a big deal to me and to basically sell that trust to someone for business is not something I am willing to do.
I realized that anyone who would be so cavalier with that loyalty is someone that I can’t be in business with.
As of now I have separated myself from Chisel Beauty. I took myself and all of my content off the website and left the partnership. Since then my words and my images have been re-added to a website that I don’t even have access to. It is painful as a blogger to see someone else taking credit for your work and I hate to think that my followers are commenting or emailing me and I can’t even see it to respond. I hope that I am able to spread the word quickly and put all of this behind me as soon as possible.
In the meantime I am really excited to be back in the drivers seat! I am working on some really fun new ideas and fancying up the design and making it better than ever!
I have learned so much from this experience, but the most important thing I have learned is to trust myself and to stand by what I believe in no matter what.

What a great message. I’m also at the point in my life where I’m having to make decisions and figuring out where I’m willing to compromise and where I’m not. It’s great to see that you ultimately followed your gut, even though it may not have been the most popular/profitable choice.
With so many blogs today doing “spin-offs” whether on or offline (new blogs, writing in magazines, writing books, clothing lines, etc.), it’s great to see someone who is not willing to comprise the integrity of their blog and following their heart instead. Thank you.

How can your content be used without your consent? I think it is funny that when you do a google search for chisel beauty, every page that comes up says “posted by cara.” Hmm I wonder how long it will be lasting if all their good content came from you? I recently started watching all your blog posts on Chisel Beauty after my sister sent me the link. I have checked back often since then to see if there were new posts. I went on today and found a post about a VS Angel makeup tutorial, when I clicked on the link I was very bummed to see that it was not your video but a different dull girl who didn’t seem to be enjoying herself at all. I love the name MaskCara and hope that you are able to start up a blog completely on your own! I know I will be a loyal follower of that blog. Wish you all the best!

I have been following you for some time now and was kinda sad when your blog changed name, I didn’t like it at all. So glad it’s back to the old name I love it and hopefully we will be seeing you post more often.

If you ever do have a product you want to launch, have you ever looked into Kickstarter.com? It’s a place where you can get funding by offering stuff when people pledge money to help out. I”m sure you’ve heard of it, but just in case you hadn’t- you’ve gotta take a look and see how it could possibly help you to financially back anything you may want to create or do (it’s not just for products, but services, websites, all kinds of stuff).

I was so confused I kept checking chisel beauty and saw the VS video and was so disappointed when I went to it and it was not you but that boring other girl. Her tutorial was no as good, not even in the same spectrum, as your videos are! I always liked Maskcara better, and I will not be visiting chisel beauty again! They are nothing without you!

I just started following chisel beauty after I saw one of your posts on pinterest. I looked through all the posts on chisel beauty and honestly only read your posts. You are gorgeous and have amazing advise and beauty tutorials. And now to see that you are also a strong professional woman who doesn’t back down for what you want… I am definitely a Maskcara loyalist now! We need more strong women like that. Also, thanks to you I started using Moroccan oil and it changed my life (well my hair that is) in just one use. So that alone makes me eager to see what you will be teaching me next. Congrats!!

I am so glad you are back! I really didn’t like the layout or the feel of the other website either. I love this site. I have learned so much! Have you heard the story of Rocky? The movie Rocky was written by Slyvester Stallone (you probably knew that), but did you know it was based on a real person? When the studio offered to buy the movie from Stallone, they offered him like $40,000 for the movie, and instead he took much less and asked to be cast as the lead, taking the SAG minimum wage. He bet on himself. The fighter that it was based on was offered 1% of the film’s gross sales, or $20k. He took the $20k. He did not bet on himself…he missed out on $8 million dollars. I had been following your blog and loved that I had found a source for actual advice, not a product-pusher. I thought it wasn’t too far away before your posts were all about a product placement. I found the chiselbeauty.com blog only a few months ago, and instantly fell in love with it because of YOUR posts! You are gorgeous and have informative and ENTERTAINING posts. I literally laugh out loud sometimes reading them. Then there was that post on chiselbeauty about the “changes” that were taking place, and all of a sudden, you weren’t posting anymore!!! I was checking in every other day, thinking maybe you were just too busy to post, but nope, you were never there. I was so upset! Cara! I’m a little slow on the uptake here. But I wanted to share my story about my love affair with Maskcara. Here goes…I found you while stalking around Pinterest last year. Needless to say I was totally stoked about finding a girl who keeps it real, has some serious makeup talent, actually SHOWS me how to do it all through videos and makes me laugh all the while. Oh and did I mention she is a MOM in her twenties, just like me
I followed your blog like a lost puppy! The email updates were a must so I didn’t miss a thing! Suddenly, along came the whole Chisel Beauty thing…ok, it was different, not as fun but it was you, so I still followed. All the while, missing the genius blogger name Maskcara (which I still used in my head). Thankfully, I still had a taste of Cara through your pinterest page (thats how i got my Maskcara fix). Then I noticed I wasn’t getting as many emails updates anymore from the blog…strange. I had a super busy summer and my makeup ventures took a backseat. Fall arrives and I’m like ok, Cara and I have some catching up to do. I was dying to see what cool fun stuff I had missed during my blur of a summer. So I go to chisel beauty and I poke around to discover Cara is gone! Gasp! Immediately googling Maskcara, I hold my breath that my favorite makeup guru and blogger of ALL TIME is still out there. Cause how the heck am I ever gonna look like Mila Kunis at this wedding on Saturday without Cara?! Breathing a huge sigh of relief and jumping for joy on the inside (ok maybe a little on the outside too), I click on Maskcara.com. You were back in full effect. Score!
I know it’s months later but I feel compelled to let you know…I missed you, I’m glad – scratch that – ECSTATIC you’re back! Keep doing what your doing because girl, you got an awesome thing going on here! You are so genuine and enjoyable. Truly a rare GEM! Go Cara!!
