My name is Matthew and I would like to nominate my wife Jade Arrington. I know it seems weird that a man would be on your blog but I noticed my wife liked you on Facebook so I clicked on it out of curiosity and stumbled upon this contest. I wouldn’t know where to begin when it comes to why my wife deserves this but I will do my best; I owe her that much. In September of 2010 we found out through ultra sound that our third baby, a boy, was diagnosed with a rare chromosome condition called Trisomy 18. This rare genetic disorder effects every organ especially the heart. The complications are endless and as a result, our precious baby boy named Locke William born January 25, 2011 only lived a few precious minutes. He was full term and weighed a whopping 4 pounds 10 ounces. He was perfect and precious and so special.
Because we found out early on in the pregnancy of his condition we had several months to prepare and try to wrap our heads around saying goodbye to our baby. Through it all Jade was amazing. We have a five year old daughter named Laken and a two year old son named Track. They are her pure joy and the reason she could get out of bed in the morning. I watched her night after night cry herself to sleep and then wake up in the morning and rally for her children. They are her everything. Her faith is so inspiring. Although our hearts were broken she knew that Locke was too special for this earth and she cleaved to that knowledge everyday.
When Locke was born we we’re in awe. His tiny spirit radiated in the room. He had shown complications during labor and although the doctors advised her not to have a c-section because the outcome was the same no matter what, we needed to meet him, just for a moment. So Jade made the decision to have a cesarean. She said after that she needed to know in her heart that even though she couldn’t fix him, she did everything in her power to give him life. She needed him to know how much she loved him and how grateful she was that he was part of our family.
I have watched in awe this last year at the strength of my wife and it killed me that there was nothing I could do to ease her ache. We made a good team and relied on each other, but that pain was still there. Jade was determined to find something else besides bitterness through this experience. She opened her heart and she let others in. We have a family blog where she wrote her thoughts and feelings throughout the pregnancy and after. It has been overwhelming the number of people, a lot of which are strangers, that have found strength through her blog. Countless stories of ways she has given people a reason to do better and be better. She turned a tragedy that could have ruined her and her family forever into something that brought strength and hope to everyone around her. She says it’s what Locke would have wanted. That says a lot about the women she is. I am so honored to call her my wife. Thanks so much for considering Jade for your contest.
