MY FAVORITE MAKEUP / SKIN / HAIR PRODUCTS:

I thought it might be nice to have all my current product recommendations all compiled in one place! I talk about and use all kinds of products all the time but this list is going to be VERY ELITE:) I only add products that are my tried and true very best and most wonderful favorites. QUICK MAKEUP TIPS:

I get a lot of questions about make up tips (best ways to cover blemishes, how to apply bronzer, etc.) and I found the best way to answer them all is in my #INSTAHACS series! You can follow along on instagram ( @maskcaracosmetics ) or just follow this link for all the #instahacs!

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED WITH MAKEUP? WHERE DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL?:

When I was 9 or 10 my older sister Rachel started using me as a doll to makeover. I had always loved any form of art but I was more excited about this than anything! I thought the fact that you could wear it made it extremely fun! So I began reading books (mostly Kevin Aucoin) and experimenting as often as possible. Naturally when career day came around at the beginning of my sophomore year in highschool I wanted to do something related to makeup. I went into the only makeup store around in my area at the time, Merle Norman. After a days work, Sandy, the store owner offered me a job! I have been doing makeup ever since! I have read many books, done seminars and mostly just practiced and spent a lot of time at sephora. No formal schooling 🙂

WHAT IS YOUR HAIR COLOR?:

My Really dark hair:
Formally Redkin Shades EQ 3NB.
But I only dye my whole head about once or twice a year, to save it from the damage and to give it a natural looking ombre. I do my roots myself with Garnier Fruictise in Soft Black.

Now:

I keep my hair from going too warm by toning it with shades EQ 9T, I love to have an ashy undertone in my hair. It flatters me much more than the warmth:)

Update: My hair is now chocolate brown. I use Redken Shades EQ in 4WG. I love this color because it’s rich without being too red.

WHAT MAKEUP BOOKS DO YOU RECOMMEND?:

Making Faces and Face Forward Both by Kevyn Aucoin are my favorite by leaps and bounds. Every other makeup book I read I find myself comparing to these every other pages thinking things like “Kevyn makes this much more simple!” or “Kevyn is so much more relatable!” I’m kind of in love with him. I wish he had lived longer, he was such a lovely person..

I WANT TO START A BLOG OF MY OWN, ANY ADVICE?:

You bet! I wrote a post all about it here:)

HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION?:

As much as it breaks my heart, I have come to the realization that I cannot answer every correspondence. I took on the challenge a little while ago to try and answer everything that came in, just to see how reasonable it would be. For two days I literally did nothing else and still wasn’t able to keep up. Please know that I read every single one and I love them. My comments are the first thing I look at in the morning with squinted sleepy eyes because they are the best way to start out my day. I take into consideration all of your requests and questions and use that for future posts and will continue to do my best to answer what I can.

Side note: Simple questions about posts are better to ask in the comment section of the blog, that way the rest of the readers can get the answer too.

Hi! I’ve followed you on Pinterest forever and love everything you post and do! Since it’s hard for you to answer questions, I’ll phrase it as a comment and let you explore. I came across amazing skincare products called Nerium. The Night Cream does everything all in one bottle. After 1 day your skin feels softer. After 7 days noticeable changes occur. And so on. Plus they have and instant eye serum and body changing contour cream. Check it out for yourself! I can even arrange a trial for you! Thanks

Is there still any remaining inventory of the original formulation hanging around? I ordered the new products and though I like the colors of aura and rose gold illuminator (pretty hard to tell with the desert sunset blush, as it seems to contain almost no pigment), I really, really, vastly prefer the finish of the old formulation. I’m curious whether people are liking the new one and whether there’s any hope that you’ll be reverting back. Or maybe offering both — I’ll call them the old “radiant petal” finish and the new “sticky mess” finish. 🙂 Seriously, I really do hope business is going well with the new formula, I just can’t work with it and hope there’s some of the good stuff left from before to do an exchange.

I had my brows done 7 weeks ago, it really hurt, but they healed well, but needed filling in. I had my second appt 5 days ago, it still really hurt. But they looked lovely. She told me not to put anything on them, no oil like I did the first time.
And to keep dry for 3 days. Last time I kept them dry for 7 as I read this was better. I still hasn’t wet them, but they are scabby and itchy. Some have come off and they look really patchy. And they are kind of peeling and dry. I put a bit of grape seed oil on today, but they still look patchy. Dark in places and nothing in others. Is this normal?

Hi, I’m so excited I just bought a bunch of your products at the pinners expo, and I want to make sure I am taking care of my products properly. What do you recommend for taking care of your brushes, and foundation? Do you need to keep them covered so they don’t dry out?

Btw I just applied the foundation for the first time and I LOVE IT! That’s a huge complement because I HATE foundation! I’m so happy I bought from your product line.

Thank you for creating such an amazing line.
