30 flirty & thriving!

I had my 30th birthday today!

birthday

I remember when 30 seemed SO old.
Like once you turned 30 all the fun stuff was Just over.
it’s funny how we live in a culture that sees aging as a negative in a lot of ways.
The other day I was with a group of women and one of them was being funny and self depreciating talking about how she was the oldest in the group with embarrassment and I couldn’t help but think staking your claim as the oldest person in a group should be bragging!
Why on earth would anyone be ashamed!?

Even as a kid I thought I’d be devastated to have to turn 30 someday.
And you know what?
I was WRONG.
One, because I ALWAYS love my birthday and two because I like the way my 20’s made me into who I am now. I wouldn’t trade what I’ve learned in those years for the world.
I’ve got 3 boys in my life that have got me thinking that my 30’s will be the best yet.

PS Winners of both the Sonnet James dress & the #swiftestmakeup challenge will be announced tomorrow (friday) so keep an eye out for that!

  1. I’m going to be 33 on May 14th and I’ll have to say…I LOVE BEING IN MY 30’s!!!!! I actually look better now that in my early 20’s and I’m so much more confidant now than I was before! I feel like I’m 20 but with way more confidence and more of a…I don’t care what other people “think” as long as I’m happy! My relationship with God also re-blossomed in my 30’s and to me that’s the best part!

  2. I just turned 30 this past year too! It’s a surreal feeling. Some days I feel 25 and some days I feel 95 lol. But most days I think.. Age is but a number! 😉 Embrace it. P.S. Love you and all your beauty tips! If you are ever in Ohio and want to do a “Makeover Monday” I’m your girl!

  3. First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love birthdays. I hope you had an awesome day with loved ones. Second, I want your shirt! Well, your entire outfit, but the other items I can figure out. Where can I get me that adorable shirt? I’m always on the search for the cutest comfy clothes, and that looks like it qualifies.

  4. Happy birthday Cara! You are such an incredible person, to so many woman that you don’t even KNOW! I can’t tell you how much you’ve changed and improved my mindset about makeup and beauty, so I know you’ve definitely done the same for a ton of other ladies. Thank you so much for being who you are! I’m 28 and I’m HAPPY to have birthdays, because when you think about it… so many people don’t get to. Celebrate that you are alive and happy!!!

  5. Happy Birthday! As someone who has been thirty for nearly 10 months, let me tell you what happens… not a lot, actually. Except I feel like people take me more seriously when I state my age now. It’s like “Oohhhh, she is past the first third of her life, she must know what she is talking about.”
Or it is my new “I really don’t care, if you think I know what I am talking about”-Attitude, that has developed over the past few years.
Really, I feel like I really am what I wanted and pretended to be at 20. And I look a lot better too. It can only get better from here on out.

  6. Happy birthday, beautiful lady! Thirty is a great number and I enjoyed the whole decade! I turned 40 last year and I’m finding that this decade is pretty stinking great, as well! Hope you have a wonderful day!

  7. Happy Birthday! I am knocking on the door of 50! You are such a beautiful lady inside and out! Have a blessed day!

  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CARA! Welcome to the best years yet!! I’m 38 and I’m a TOTAL ROCK-STAR…thanks to you!! :) You’ve changed my life!! Thanks, Cara!

  9. Happy Birthday Cara! I’m 59 years old and have 3 boys (they are grown, but they are still boys to me!) You are still a baby!!
Enjoy your 30s! Your 40s will be even better. They are the best!!!! I follow all you to stay young looking!

  10. Happy BELATED Birthday Cara!!! You are gorgeous, and like a fine wine will just get better and better with age 😀

  11. I SO agree with this! I am 35 now and it’s so much better than I imagined it would be. Twenties were a time for mistakes and in your 30s, you know who you are, care less what others think, you know what you will and won’t stand for in your life, and for me it’s just a more comfortable time. Happy Birthday to you. You are gorgeous, and I enjoy your blog so much.

  12. Happy Birthday! I’ve been following you from the beginning. Amazing to see you grow. Love your outfit and makeup in this picture. Can we get info on clothes and makeup. :)

  13. Holy moly you look GORGEOUS in the picture (no surprise there)! I would love to know where your outfit is from–so cute! Happy Birthday! I hope you had the BEST day! :)

  14. I agree with you and many of the ladies here – I just recently turned 30 and it is the.best.! All of those crazy experiences and mistakes of my twenties have produced a better version of myself that will just keep on getting better with experience. It feels like on my 30th birthday I got a perspective bomb dropped on me – in the best possible way. It sounds like you are already coming from a great perspective – Happy Birthday Cara!!

  15. I used to feel awful about aging too, but then something happened to completely change my perspective. A girl I knew in college died while hiking in Hawaii two years ago; she was only 23. I just found it so crazy that the whole time I had known her in college, that was her life story, she was destined to die at 23 in a hiking accident. It made me wish I had talked to her more or spent more time with her. And it really made me appreciate how growing old is not a bad thing, it’s a privilege that many do not get.

  16. I love the 13 going on 30 reference! And I totally understand what you’re saying about thinking when you turn 30 you’ll be old. I’m only 23 and honestly all my last few birthdays haven’t been that big of a deal to me…I’m hoping I stay that way when I get older and turn 25 and 30! I feel like everyone my age freaks out about that haha including my husband!! He had a quarter life crisis totally lol

  17. I was thrilled to turn 30 because it marked the end of the dumb mistakes I had made in my twenties. Now, 34 years later, I approach each year as a new gift with new opportunities to learn and grow. Treat yourself kindly and recognize your beauty and strength regardless of age.

  18. Happy birthday…I look forward to my birthday every year, I remember when I turned 30 and I thought to myself, wow I am adult now! I will be turning 56 this year and still feel young at heart and so happy that I do not have any major health and look forward to life and every birthday.
The trick is to age honesty & gracefully and make it look great so that every one looks forward to it… Wishing you many years of love and good health.

  19. Happiest of happy (now belated, but just celebrate an extra day for me, OK?) birthdays, Cara! 30 is fantastic. As someone looking down the barrel at 40 now, I’ve really enjoyed my 30s and think it’s only going to get better from here as well.

  20. Happy birthday! My 30s were great – I had a great career, met and married my husband, had my first baby and ended it with being pregnant with my second (he appeared right after I turned 40). Thanks for all your great makeup, hair, clothing and life tips – they are helping me make my 40s even better! Have a wonderful birthday!!

  21. Happy Birthday Cara! You have so many great years to look forward to. I’m 41 and so far the forties have been just as good as the thirties! Have a wonderful birthday weekend!

  22. Yay! Happy Birthday! Thank you for sharing your life with us on your blog! I’ll be twenty-nine next week and I’m finally getting excited about getting a little older. Cheers to you!

  23. Happy happy birthday! I’m turning 30 this year too and I totally agree that 30 used to seem so old but i feel like it’s the perfect age right now. I hope you had a great one!

  24. Happy Birthday! I turn 30 in August & I’m not gonna lie, I don’t love the idea. Your post is fantastic though. I’m going to try to remember that I have a lot to show for myself-a degree, a wonderful husband & 2 babies, going on 3 this October. :)

  25. I completely agree! I turned thirty in February. Thirty used to seem old. Even 23 used to seem old! My twenties were not what I expected. They were HARD. I am so looking forward to my thirties! They are going to be the best! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  26. I’m reading today looking at your actual blog design, which I usually don’t see due to reading on my phone and wanted to say that in your sidebar picture you look so beautiful. Happy birthday!

  27. I have to say, I am 35 and looking back on my life up until now I can say that I have felt my most beautiful in my 30’s. Honestly. Women are beautiful at every age but I think that the decade of your 30’s is when all the insecurities of your 20’s fade away. You become more confident because you know more of what you want out of life. In your 30’s you care much less about what others think of you and care more about your happiness and the happiness of those who really matter in your life. I love being in my 30’s and I can only image that it gets better from here. Happy birthday, Cara.

  28. Happy, Happy Birthday Cara!! May today and the year ahead bring you all you could wish for and more.

I remember watching Paulina Porizkova on ANTM once, saying “Ageing is a privelidge, not a birthright.” It’s always stuck with me, I am now in my early 40s and some of my dearest friends unfortunately didn’t make it that far. Feel lucky.

Enjoy your day, hope you get suitably spoilt by your boys!!

  29. Happy Birthday babe! I hope you had the most lovely day of all lovely days! I’m so happy to hear that your life is turning out to be so wonderful! Sometime hardships turn out to be blessing in disguise and make you a better person in the end. I hope you have an amazing 30th year because you honestly deserve it! You are such a beautiful person, inside and out! Keep doing what you do because I (& a lot of us) truly, deeply appreciate it!

  30. Happy Birthday!!! Mine was last Sunday and I turned 33. I remember it being so rough to turn 30. I hated it. And while I still dont like the number going up I have to say I feel so DANG secure with myself being over 30. I have to say the 20s are nice and all but there is so much crap in the 20s that it is so nice to leave that behind. You probably have a better attitude than I did turning 30 and it just gets better from here. Hope you had an awesome day!

  31. Well, Cara for someone who is only 30 you definately have already lived a very full life. I am now 43 and looking back I wasn’t even married when I turned 30. It is honestly the best decade! Enjoy every moment you deserve it! I remember I so use to stress about getting older, aging etc but since turning 40 I just thank God that I am alive and well and now blessed with a family after stuggling to fall pregnant for many years and having my son at 39 naturally. Happy birthday and thank you for being such an inspiration.

  32. Happy Birthday! You’ve accomplished so much in 30 years, I thought you were older. You are so wise! I just turned 30 myself this year (and expecting my second boy), age is just a number. 30 has a promising decade ahead!

  33. Happy birthday. I also have 2 sons and a wonderful husband. I will be 37 this summer. I heard something recently that has changed my thoughts on age “growing old is a gift that not everyone receives.” I heard or read this right after my best friend’s mom died at 58. I now realize that I am lucky to not only be alive and healthy but to be in a wonderful happy place. I loved my 20’s but don’t want to go back there now!!!!!

  34. Hello there, There’s no doubt that your blog might be having
internet browser compatibility issues. When I take a look at your website
in Safari, it looks fine however, when opening in IE, it’s got some
overlapping issues. I simply wanted to provide you with a quick heads up!
    Apart from that, great website!
