I fell in love with this gorgeous lady and her makeup so deeply that I had to do a tutorial.
This has definitely been one of those looks that you do once and it gets you in a rut where you can’t bring yourself to do any other look.
It’s just the right amount of definition to look very soft but still show off your eyes.
I hope you love it!

July 22, 2014 at 4:34 amHi Cara!
Thanks for the great tutorial. I have only just found your website recently and I love it! Safe to say I have spent heaps of time exploring your blog!!! Just wondering what nailpolish you are wearing in the video? Love the colour!!!
Thanks,
Katie
Jennifer
July 22, 2014 at 5:46 amI would also love to know what nail polish color you are wearing. So pretty and perfect for summer!
Thanks for all your hard work. Love your site!

July 22, 2014 at 4:37 amGorgeous!!! You look beautiful as always!!!….Just a bit confused about the real highlighter that you used this tutorial! It was not the IIID foundation highlighter. However you listed your product instead. Can you please tell us the real highlighter that you used in this tutorial? Thank you!
Samantha
July 22, 2014 at 5:15 amLooks like it might be the new set of IIID foundation
Jen
July 22, 2014 at 7:07 amI was wondering the same. Is IIID coming in individual packaging now?
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 7:59 amThis is just the sample packaging I get, the real packaging will be different but much cuter than this! π
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 7:57 amI would never lie to you! Haha its just in its sample packaging, because the new foundations will be able to be sold separately! Yay! It is the exact same color as the highlight side of my current compact duo π
Cecilia
July 22, 2014 at 12:39 pmCara thanks for clarifying it!…. Much appreciate it!!! π

July 22, 2014 at 4:38 amGorgeous! Going to try it this morning, minus the lashes-tried them once and hilariously failed:-). Thanks for the beautiful look!

July 22, 2014 at 5:03 amHi Cara!
Beautiful job! I’m in the need for a major overhaul and need some expertise PLEASE!!! I would like a really good liquid foundation and setting powder(with some color). I have combed through your site multiple times and have read tons of reviews. NARS, Makeup Forever, Stila and on and on. I am 44 with light olive complexion and super oily!!!! I’m thinking an oil free product but also read they can dry you out. Would like some coverage as well to cover up my uneven skin tone and sun spots. A primer possibly???
Why don’t I just ask for a magic wand, right???
So, could you recommend some really good foundations and setting powder so I can stop the madness!!!!! Thanks so much!!
Steph

July 30, 2014 at 9:19 pmI’m not Cara but I am super super oily still in my 30’s (I think I have gotten MORE oily not less) AND I live in the desert (it was 116 today). I tried a TON of stuff and the Smashbox BB Cream (NOT the CC it’s for regular to dry skin). Anyway it really works all by itself (and their BB eyes for dark circles). Just sharing because it took me so so many tries to find something that wouldn’t come off/get absorbed.

Christine
July 22, 2014 at 5:57 amSaw it this morning while I was in the treadmill and did it (minus the lashes). I’m a diehard cat-eye gal…so this is a great switch up for me. I’m going to send you a photo of the finished “product”!
Kristin
July 22, 2014 at 6:02 amHi you are amazing and the look is perfect. Can you tell me what you used under your eyes. I need that product but when I clicked on the link I didn’t see anything that was in a round pot! I appreciate all your great tips. π
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 8:02 amYes! Kind of confusing I should have specified. I used the light highlight from the duo I linked to but I’m updating it right now so it’s in its sample packaging in this video. Sorry for the confusion π
Kristin
July 22, 2014 at 8:12 amNo problem, thanks for the reply. Any dates on when it will be available. I want to order it as soon as its available. Also do you recommend a color lighter than your skin tone or you correct color match. I have you medium foundation right now. I love your tutorials they are real and not overdone, keep them coming!
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 8:27 amGosh I wish I had an exact date but I don’t yet! Pre-sales will stay as soon as I do! For the highlight color I recommend a shade of two lighter:) thank you so so much!

July 22, 2014 at 6:14 amBeautiful! Quick question for you: When might you use a foundation brush vs. the beauty blender?
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 8:07 amSometimes I just prefer the speed of a brush (since you have to get the blender damp and then tap it in, it seems to take a bit longer) or if I am applying to an area that needs more precision than the blender can offer (because of its size) but other than that as far as creams and liquids go they are pretty interchangeable π

July 22, 2014 at 6:51 amThis is your best look of recent! I love it. My four year old daughter loved watching it, she’s already a make-up lover and hates that I won’t let her wear any. Now to my question; I love false eyelashes but I always feel so conspicuous with them on, as if everyone I look it can automatically tell that I’m wearing lashes. Is there a lash that I can wear everyday that aren’t so dramatic? I’m a stay at home mom and I wear make-up everyday but fake eyelashes seem a bit much for a trip to Target.
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 9:03 amStarting at four!? A girl after my own heart! Once you get a hang of them falsies are so easy and you lose the feeling that you look like a crazy lash lady! With lash extensions becoming so popular I think it’s strange at all to see dramatic lashes ask over the place (even the gym!)
Gaijinjoy
July 22, 2014 at 6:56 amIt’s a lovely look but very similar to many of the looks you have previously done. Some variation would be very interesting.
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 8:00 amAgreed:) Thursday I’m paying one that is a total departure from my usual, I hope you like it!

July 22, 2014 at 7:14 amHallo…would the Milani vanilla work for me if I’m extremely fair (yellowish tone) or should I try the beige?
Thank you

July 22, 2014 at 7:21 amCara, you have the best pregnant lady face! Your skin is so glowy before the makeup and your cheeks look so full and youthful, love it!

July 22, 2014 at 8:57 amI cannot wait to try this! Is the Dior Lip Glow worth all the hype? I’ve been considering it, it looks great on you!
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 9:05 amThank you! It really is. It’s a beautiful color on everyone and is so moisturizing! You can’t go wrong. Plus I’ve had mine for over a year so it lasts forever!

July 22, 2014 at 9:28 amLove it ! Went to CVS this morning but was a little confused on the Milani highlighter . The vanilla highlighter you list doesn’t look like the one you use in the video. The vanilla has a brown brown pencil but in the video it looks like its light on both ends ? Maybe the selection at my store was limited. Any idea when your new IIID is going to be available ? . Could u possible recommend something close to it in your tutorials . I’m desperate for a back up product . Im nursing my second IIID in dark and I’ve been out of med for 7 months . It’s killing me !!!
Cara
July 22, 2014 at 9:47 amWeird! I’ll double check that Milani liner! So the closest highlighter I’ve found for the medium is Mary Kay yellow concealer! In this case I used the light though which is still in stock! Gosh I’m so sorry it is taking so long! I’m amazed at how long of a prices it is when you make changes!

July 22, 2014 at 10:04 amCara, is there a substitute color for Brun? I’d hate just to buy that color only for this look(for brows, I’m using Anastasia duo in Caramel). Would Espresso from the original Lorac Pro Pallette work?

July 22, 2014 at 11:58 amI am a Cara tutorial junkie .. You love .. I love!!! I went to Walmart to find the Milani highlighter and noticed the same thing . Maybe it can only be bought online. The picture online is different than in the store . Who can wait for the mailman .. Not me ! Please tell your production company to hurry .. I can’t pull off the dark . Med was a god send !!

July 22, 2014 at 1:14 pmLove your videos usually but the angle with the mirror in the foreground was completely distracting sorry to say but I had to actually cover that area with my hand to watch. I know different strokes for different folks but the intent of the blog is makeup technique and I could hardly see how you applied it π
Taryn
July 22, 2014 at 3:06 pmYa I kind of agree. This video was absolutely beautiful of you, but hard to watch and follow along. I don’t know if it was the angle, mirror, or too much fast forwarding?
Angela
July 22, 2014 at 1:42 pmI love this look! I usually feel that lining my lower lid looks very overdone on me…like Avril Lavigne overdone, but that’s probably because I never do it! I can’t wait to try it with some of your tips/techniques from this video to see how it turns out.
Also, I personally really like the videography in this one…but then I have no problem with any of your videos. π

July 22, 2014 at 2:31 pmLove this tutorial! I will definitely be trying those eye lining techniques. Also just wanted to say that I am THRILLED that you will be offering the IIID colors separately. The medium contour is perfect for me, but the highlight is way too yellow. In the light, the highlight color is a much better fit (although it still sits weird on my skin), but the contour is way too light. You are awesome!

July 22, 2014 at 7:09 pmHey Cara! I have always steered away from using blush, because I have a red T-zone, and it just makes me look red all over. Do you have any advice?
Becka T
July 22, 2014 at 11:25 pmUsing a yellow-based highlighting concealer or foundation, like Cara’s IIID highlighting foundation, on your t-zone and in a “pie piece” under your eyes/on the tops of your cheeks can really help hide the redness. I know the medium is out of stock right now, but she suggested Mary Kay concealer in yellow in a response above, and she used to use the Maybelline Dream Lumi highlighter before she created IIID. Hope that helps!
Emerald Earrings
July 23, 2014 at 7:16 amLoreal has a green primer that really helps with redness! It cancels out all red tones and then leaves a fresh palette for your foundation, I love it! http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod1980037
(word to the wise – don’t use under your eyes because it could amplify dark under-eye circles π )

July 22, 2014 at 7:21 pmLove the tutorial, but when I came upon your website (I visit often) today, a pop up said I needed an update on Java. I don’t know if this was related to your site, but now we have some kind of virus and our laptop is not working right. Just wanted to put this info out there, just in case it happens to someone else. Thanks for all your tutorials and loved your chat on “the small things blog”.

July 23, 2014 at 9:31 amHi Cara Great video! Love the look. August 6, 2014 at 7:13 pmYou’ve done a beautiful job here, as always. I have to say, though, I miss your old school video tutorials, because you let us watch the whole process. This video sped up some things that were worth seeing. May 21, 2015 at 8:53 amI have tried to copy Phoebe Tonkin’s makeup look several times over the past few years (it hasn’t changed much, from Secret Circle to TVD to The Originals) without much success. I even did a Pinterest search a while back for “Phoebe Tonkin makeup” without any luck. So you can imagine I was just thrilled when this tutorial showed up in my feed yesterday!
