After we got Anne all BRONZED up the other day, we also got her all dressed up and Jessica Janae took some amazingly cool photos of her. I thought you might want to see the cute summer outfit we picked out and I really thought you might want to get yourself these sunglasses.
Every where I go wearing these babies people ask me where I got them, so they must be pretty cool:)

To enter just commentΒ your idea of “the perfect summer night”

Here’s mine (although I won’t count it as an entry) The first thing to come to my mind was back yard barbecues. The smell or summer mixed with the grass and the grill, Β watermelon, friends and family, laughing …that is my(or one of my..) picture perfect summer night.

After a day of sunshine and saltwater, we pick up fresh salmon & a few ears corn from the local market. We head home, fire up the grill and watch the kids play with the dog in the back yard. I hand him a beer and grab one for myself as we watch the sun set over the horizon. We dine al fresco, make some home made ice cream for dessert, and enjoy our time together not taking these moments for granted.

Growing up, there was this old timey ice cream parlor near the movie theatre called “Summer Nights”. This automatically made me think of that sweet place. It was always a treat to go catch an evening show then get some ice cream there. Then sit around and people watch and dream up what their lives were. People watching is just about my favorite. Perfect summer night! <3

Every year in the summer we have a long “Cousin’s Weekend” in our cabin. It’s on an island in Rangeley, Maine with no electricity. Its pretty far from any real civilization, so it’s a wonderful place to go and reset yourself. With no one on their phones, or tablets, it always becomes a weekend of real connecting and bonding among these wonderful people that I am so blessed to have.

Every night spent there is the perfect summer night, but one night in particular stands out. There was this refreshing smell of pine, mixed with the sweet scent of the raspberry and blackberry bushes that line the trails. It was one of those warm, summer nights with an occasional, gentle breeze that wasn’t too cold or too hot, just perfect. After watching an amazing sunset, where the sun just melted into the mountain’s horizon we decided to take the boat out. We get to the middle of the lake, and we’re completely alone, so we cut the lights, and spread the blankets out and just star gazed, and caught up on each other’s lives. It was such a special, and wonderful night. You could see the milky way streaking across the sky, and way off in the distance there was the occasional lightening flash, illuminating parts of the mountains. Close enough to be beautiful, but far enough away that we weren’t concerned for our safety. It truly was a perfect night, witnessing the pure beauty of nature, and sharing that moment with my wonderful family.

I’m so happy summer is returning!

The perfect summer night happened last summer. A family picnic in hot sun turned into close friends sitting around a fire pit by night. A cold drink in our hands, warm fire at our feet, and that kind of conversation that goes long into the night. And of course my handsome husband sitting across the fire from me, the flames illuminating his perfect features and we could exchange a smile or lock eyes for just a moment as our friends gabbed away next to us. The campfire is rolling and the marshmallows are roasting. Remains of melted chocolate on our fingertips and beers in our hands, good friends around and music filling the air. The perfect summer night, is warm, not hot, not muggy or stuffy. If the temp is right, no breeze is required. Its after dinner, before the sun sets all the way, during the time of day when there is “golden light.” And since this is perfection, there are no mosquitoes (I have a load of mosquitoes where I live and I hate them) and I am sitting in a porch swing, and the air is filled with the perfume of flowers, and freshly mowed grass that happens each spring. The air is thick with peace and everything is calm…so I guess my kids are all in bed, that or they are quiet!

And I would love to win, but I wanted to thank you for the opportunity just to think about the question. It provided a “space” in my morning that I really needed. πŸ™‚

My perfect summer night — day dreaming about it now: I am snuggled up in a light blanket wrapped in my hubby’s arms with the only light coming from a zillion stars overhead, a full moon, a few fireflies, and the glow of what remains from a bonfire where we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows earlier. We’ve spent the day by the pool laughing and splashing about with friends and family, but now they have gone home or are fast asleep leaving us talking in soft whispers about what a perfect day it was. He tells me that I look beautiful — and I believe him even though my hair is damp and wild, and the only trace left of my Cara-inspired natural day-time makeup is a bit of lip stain. AND my cheeks are flushed with happiness instead of a sun burn because I wore tons of sunscreen all day! We make a toast with our red solo cups about how we will never forget this happy day and will always remain grateful for every day we have together — come rain or shine.

The perfect summer night would be having a relaxed night with not set in stone plans. I’d have friends over for grilling our favorite foods then we would go do whatever we please; like going to the lake, play volleyball, get ice cream, or just take a drive with the windows down and music blaring! But to make the night perfect, we’d end it by swimming in my backyard. The only thing giving us light would be the lightning bugs, moon, stars, and all the twinkle lights lit up in the trees.

Grilling fish and sipping rosΓ©, catching a handful of fireflies with the little ones and then watching them fly up and away all at once. Roasting marshmallows by the fire pit and laughing until it hurts. Like the John Mayer song goes, a little bit a summer is what the whole year’s all about!

Family dinner time. My husband and I have six kids. Ages 17, 14, 12, 11, 2 and a newborn (baby Maxi passed away at birth in January but is still part of us), and making dinner and getting it all on the table could be an unpleasant, awful time. However, we are keenly aware how fast our kids are growing up, growing out and growing away from us. Yes, the kitchen is crowded, crazy, and LOUD, but we are together. Papa makes spaghetti and has pots boiling, steaming. The garlic bread always gets burned! But our sons and daughters are together laughing and fighting. It can be a wild time, and in this wildness, we are together. Together, together, together. Eating, talking, arguing and LOVING. Sometimes there is an occasional food fight or someone ends up crying. But losing my daughter five months ago has taught us how precious these times are. I know these days won’t last. Time is finite, and time with every little face, it is the most important thing, and won’t be something we get to enjoy forever. I am so in love with my kids, so very much in a deep, deep state of appreciation for them. We don’t need all the “stuff” for a perfect summer night, we only need each other. πŸ™‚

Any summer night with all of my family together in one place at one time would be a perfect summer night. We all live so far away from each other on each corner of the country, so just once, consisting of a home made fire pit for s’mores for the women, fresh cut grass for the kids to play, and the sound and smell of grilling in the background for the guys. No rain, sun and a slight breeze. Someday…

My perfect summer night would be having both my children and grandchildren at my house and having a cook out and fun games all together. Which doesn’t happen often because one of my children and her family live 13 hours away! The other perfect summer night is just me and hubby cooking steaks on the grill and then chillaxing and watching a movie together.

My perfect summer night always happens in August, when I make my annual Perseid Meteor Shower pilgrimage to my parents’ home in the country. We stay up all night to watch the sky. Some years we cuddle under blankets and drink hot cocoa; some years we throw a giant party and everybody gets smashed and we all wake up in the middle of the field at noon the next day; some years we drive up to the top of the mountain so all we can see is stars, meteors, and void. Some of my favorite summer memories are from those trips–the laughter of the people I love; the smell of hay; the exhaustion that only comes from picking blackberries in the morning, swimming in the river for hours, and then lounging on the deck with a glass of iced tea. Making jam with my mom. Teasing my brothers. Flirting with my husband. Discussing philosophy with my dad. Playing with the dogs. Scorching days giving way to impossibly cool nights. Afternoon thunderstorms. It’s the best place on Earth.

Definitely the best summer nights are the ones sitting outside with a shit-ton of tiki torches, citronella candles, and some OFF, while drinking wine with some friends and family. And cheese. And more wine.

We live in a pretty big city, but my husband and I love going to a nearby small rural town that shows movies on the lawn of their town square on summer nights. We love packing a picnic (watermelon is a must) and watching the sun set while watching whatever movie is showing!

The perfect summer night for me is laying on a soft, fuzzy blanket with the cool green grass underneath me, after having just spent a hour throwing around the football. My head is resting on my husbands stomach while I watch my little smiley boy playing with his toys. Eating fresh mixes of berries. The feeling of the sun beaming down, but as it sets, a cool breeze is flowing through fresh air. Repeat once daily forever!

My perfect summer night would include a skinny dip with my friends (or a special guy πŸ™‚ at the stroke of midnight. Take the boat out to the middle of a shallow, warm inland lake, or just leap off the pier, in the birthday suit! Float around for awhile, listen to the water and the frogs singing and hear the crackling of bonfires and music all around.

Something about a walk around the neighborhood or just anywhere random with the perfect jacket/sweaterless weather is enough to really put me in a peaceful and happy moment. Most of my life I lived in pretty cool or cold weather for most of the year so those rare days when I can just wander with just a slight breeze on my skin..I live for!

My perfect or one of my perfect Summer nights would have to be spending time with my folks down on the river. Taking the boat out for a little cruising, possibly some last minute water skiing and pulling on to the little man made beach out there. Radio playing classic country or good old school rock and roll (my dad’s favorite). Sitting in the water talking with my mom, while dad BBQs and my two pups splash around me. I try and get out to spend time with them as much as I can…you don’t realize how time flys and how your parents are aging. Cherish these slow down moments with the people who matter most! πŸ™‚ Can’t beat this for a Texas Summer night!
