Before & Afters Makeup

Monday Makeover – Randi

Today’s makeover is of my dearest, dearest sister-in-law Randi.
I absolutely adore this woman.

{ I went for a dark black top line (to give a clean finished look to the eye) and flawless, glowing skin.}

In fact, I liked her so much when we met over 10 years ago, that I devised a plan to keep her.
After my brother repeatedly chickened out on asking her on a date, I took matters into my own hands.
On our home phone I dialed her up and said something like “Hi Randi! My brother Noah wanted to ask you something…”
Then I reached my arm out to Noah in the kitchen nodding with wide eyes mouthing TAKE IT! YOU HAVE NO CHOICE!
Which landed us on a double date (my neighborhood friend Brad came as my plus one) and eventually landed me an incredibly fantastic hand-picked sister (and a niece and nephew to die for). Here is a photo of the four of them (it’s an oldie but a goodie)

What I used:

HAC Pack in Medium with Princess Peach Blush
NXY Taupe Pencil (for her nose HAC and to line her lips)
Sephora Collection Black Liquid Liner
Naked 3 Palette  I love how the rose tones in this really brought out her greens!  (Darkside & burnout) on her lids and beneath her lower lash line.
Ardell Wispie Lashes my staple lashes.
Illamasqua Lip Gloss in Electrify (I am in love with this color!)
MAC Brun to fill the brows
I set her makeup with UD Setting Spray & IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Setting Powder

I noticed immediately how green her eyes looked in the make over! I had thought Naked 3 looked like a nice palette, now I may have to consider getting it seeing as I have green eyes as well! Do you think you’ll do a post on different ways to use the Naked 3 palette?

I second this Naked3 request! I recently purchased the palette and spend a lot of time staring at the colors (in awe of how pretty they are), but I’m not always sure what to do with it, haha! Would love your guidance, Cara 🙂 The colors you chose really accentuate her eyes, beautiful!

You bring out everything that’s beautiful in them!!! Seriously, I will take a road trip to you, even if it’s just for an hour of your time to help me do the magic that you do.
Oh- side note- I was watching the dot seen round the world post this morning, because I also have a gigantic zit on my chin. Girl. You make me laugh. And then, in 2 min…. your flawless!!!! How do you DO that?!!??! I tried doing the same thing, and mine still looked like I had a zit that I tried to cover up!!! lol. So, let me know when you want my picture, and when you can fit me in. I live in Michigan so it might take me a couple days to get there. 🙂

Cara, you did an incredibly job with making her skin and acne disappear before view. Can you share your tips for covering up red skin. I have light olive skin and it seems the redness always needs to be address. I guess my skin goes between redness and yellow undertones. Your sister in law looked great. She is a beautiful woman. Great job.

Please take a rode-trip to Oregon!!!! I need you in my life. Everyday I look at my face and I just don’t have a clue what features to play up and what to hide. (Most days I want to hide them all). I literally have not changed much about my hair or makeup routine since 1987— Well, my hair no longer needs it’s own zipcode, but I need some serious help. It blows my mind how you can take all the good things about a person and make them the focus in such a natural way.

Your sister-in-law is so beautiful before and after. And don’t even get me started on that brother—you have some seriously good genes in your family. keep up the amazing work. I never get tired of seeing the transformations!

I think she’s totally gorgeous, but this isn’t my favorite makeover you’ve done. I feel like the before picture shows someone with a really cool, hip, interesting “look” – like she’s got a very special and unique spark to her. In the after photo she kind of looks like you, actually, instead of looking like herself. It’s like her funky, cool character has been smoothed over and altered so it’s less sparkly and more generic (not that you are generic, just that your look superimposed on someone else is taking away from their own unique look)

I’d love to see you do makeovers that are unique to the person, with different colors and different ways of applying the makeup. I mean I don’t think everyone’s facial features are enhanced by a very straight, thin-bridged nose… I think your SIL has an awesome nose for her face shape, and the HAC contoured her nose into something totally different and not entirely proportioned to her features. I wonder if you could do makeovers that deal with different face shapes differently.

I don’t know, I’m not trying to troll, believe me, I really love your blog and enjoy reading and watching the tutorials (I fill in and shape my brows religiously now thanks to you!) but would love to see some more variation in the eye and face makeup strategies!

      February 26, 2014 at 5:11 am

You hit the nail on the head! She looks great in the second picture but almost like a different person. I love Cara’s “look” (HAC, natural blush, soft eye makeup, fake lashes) but agree that it would be fun to see more variation in her makeovers.

    • Reply
      February 27, 2014 at 9:01 pm

I agree. For me, what stands out in this one is the blush/bronzer sculpt, which I just don’t feel works here.
BUT on the other hand, this is Cara’s look for people who, you know, yen for the Victoria Secret Face. I get why she would keep doing this because it is her niche and what many of her subscribers like as well.
But a different look would be nice. Especially playing up pale skin or doing something more daring.
