Skin Skin Products Tips & Tricks

I have been singing the praises of Tomas tanner for faces and chests for a while now…
And not just so everyone can look like they’ve been sleeping in tanning beds or sitting outside with an umbrella drink and an aluminum foil bikini…There are other valid reasons for this stuff! I promise!

Like: Dark spots, pregnancy masks, blemishes, darks circles, faces and necks that don’t match etc…Let me explain:

OH! One thing I forgot to mention in the video (amazing after all that babbling that I forgot anything, right?) is that I prefer to up my color with this vs just using a lot of bronzer or a darker foundation because I think it looks much more natural and lasts longer.

You can getcherself some here or at Sally Beauty.
(Just FYI I only use this on my face and check because I think spray bottles are REALLY hard to get even on your limbs and it doesn’t have a ton of staying power, which is fine for my face because I wash and exfoliate each night so, it’s not gonna stay no matter what it is!)
Have a spectalularly awesome weekend!

I used to always use Sun Labs but (and this is due in most part to lazines!) I usually end up using the Fake Bake Flawless bottle because it smells really good and you use a mitt so it goes on easy and doesn’t get on your hands! It’s a little bit too red of a tan for my face though but it matches the Tomas on my face just fine:)

Cara have you heard of and tried Sun Goddess self tanner? I’ve seen some you tube reviews saying its better than the Fake Bake Flawless (I’ve tried neither). I also use the Sun Labs an use the gloves that came with my Tomas to apply. I’m about out of Sun Labs which is why I was wondering if there’s something better now.

Cara, I’ve been using sun labs too, but decided it was getting too orangey. We’re heading on a cruise this week so I’ve been trying to find a new tanner for the last several weeks. I tried Extended Vacation Moroccan Mineral tan….awesome stuff! Would you mind comparing that one in your mix? Just want to put it out there! 🙂

I used a spray tan on my face for a while, a few years back. I remember feeling like I was breathing in chemicals every time I sprayed my face – I resorted to plugging my nostrils before I sprayed. The sprays work pretty good for the face, I think I’ll give that one a shot.

I love the look of spray tanning on my neck to help blend, since I have a freckled face and a fair neck. BUT it doesn’t fade evenly, so I end up with blotches, especially towards the sides of my neck. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to spray more frequently? I’m afraid that will make my neck too dark though.

I’ve used to this as an all over tanning spray and it works pretty well! I would say say you should spray, than put some great body butter on your hands to buff the tan in and make it even. Also, have a friend over to do your back because that’s impossible! I try to spray myself in the tub so the over spray can go down the drain. If you don’t wash it down it will look like you murdered Copper Tone haha

However, I have found a godsend for the uneven sun damage- Rodan & Fields REVERSE line. I ALWAYS have it on my counter (so much so I even became a consultant- shameless plug;)). Super happy I can now look like I still get some sun, so thank you!!

Hi Cara, long time fan! I’d love it if you did a post on what types of beauty treatments are safe to use during pregnancy. I was told no spray-tanning and no hair-dyeing in the first trimester, which is why I look awful and my beloved can of Tomas is rusting in my cabinet. I’d love it if you’d talk about the truth behind these rumors and maybe recommend some substitutes for things that are definitely off-limits. (I’ve heard Botox and teeth-bleaching are total no-no’s.)This sad, wrinkled, pale pregnant lady would thank you!

I have used Toma products for over 10 years, but never the spray. Bought it, love it, use it as you recommended. ALSO, I spray the backs of my hands…hate seeing the pale winter skin, and it stays during the day, even with all the hand washing! Thanks for your great tips.

I’ve been using Tomas since you mentioned it a year ago! It does help me when I’m feeling pale! One trick I started doing to help with the blotches is to wipe a q-tip on the nozzle before each separate time I spray, it seems to help get the excess off and then it doesn’t end up on your face in blotches! And if i do end up with blotches on my face i use a q-tip to dab real quick at it.
Thanks for doing a video on this! It is always so helpful to see how the amazing Cara uses these products and all your tips and tricks.

Sister, let me tell you how much I love this spray! I am a fair skinned redhead who NEVER EVER tans…I have used every self-tanner on the market (maybe not all but it feels like it)! Well, once a year goes on a tropical vacation and while all of my friends go to tanning beds (eeeeekk!!) to prepare, I find the best self tanners I can. I bought Tomas based on your recommendation because my self-tanners always fade faster on my face from washing etc. Two days before vacation I got an airbrush tan and packed my Tomas for facial touch-ups. Let me tell you, this stuff is a dream. After a long day on the beach, swimming in the ocean, or frolicing by the pool I would shower and get ready for a nice dinner. After my shower I would spray on Tomas (not just on my face but on my whole body) and proceed to style my hair and apply my makeup. This stuff dries in seconds and didn’t rub off on my clothes or on the bed sheets. It kept my spray tan looking even and fresh for 10 days in the hot Mexican sun. Thank you soooo much for recommending this!! I don’t know what I was doing before!

I’m alabaster. Ghostly white like Dita Von Teese and would not put tanner on unless it were a joke. However, how she applies it is an interesting solution for discolorations.
I stick to very-lightly-applied color correctors on top of foundation. Works for me and keeps me chalktacular.

Hi Cara, I bought this spray tan about a month ago and really like it, the only problem I notice is the smell. It definitely has that very strong chemical/ versa spa (spray tan booth) like smell to it. Is there anything you use to help with that or do you think it just fades eventually? Maybe a scented moisturizer might help?

I’ve been using it since I first read Cara’s recommendation a while back and never had any problems with the splotchiness or spots unless I haven’t wiped the nozzle after the last spray. I think it may be worth swapping out bottles again just in case where you bought it from got a case of bad bottles. Also, and I’m sure you’ve thought of this, make sure you shake it good and I shake in between sprays. Good luck!

I’m looking for something to use on my face to help add color in the summer and throughout the year. I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin, and am very prone to acne. I love getting a spray tan from the salon, but it still makes my face brak out in acne, and the color never lasts as long on my face (because of frequent washing). I have used other self tanning lotions claiming to be non comedogenic, but it has still caused pimples. Have you ever seen that to be a problem with Tomas? Or is there something else you can recommend?
