Before & Afters Makeup

Mia – Monday Makeover

After spending the entire weekend with my family for our reunion I finally got home around midnight last night and had to pack and get ready to catch my flight to head to New York by 9am this morning!
I was having panic attacks the entire flight because I am TERRIBLE at remembering everything especially when I rush.
Why am I in New York?? Remember when you guys helped me win Beauty Blogger of the Year with Allure and they promised to send me to Fashion Week and the Best of Beauty Party? Well, today they’s makin’ good on that promise, even thought they already let me go to NY once to take photos for the magazine article that comes out ANY TIME NOW!

So much excitement that my head might explode. Thanks again for helping me get here!

I’ll be taking photos of all of it if you want to follow me on instagram (maskcara)

In the meantime, here’s one of my latest makeovers I did of my sweet Mia, she is such a sweetheart and watches Christian for me from time to time, he obviously loves her.
I wanted to show a very pretty look for a young girl that doesn’t want to look overly made up. Isn’t she beautiful? Doesn’t she kind of look like Santana from Glee?

What I used:

Maskcara Brand Highlight & contour foundation + blush (coming soon!)
I used the shade foundation (similar) around the sides of her face in a diamond shape, down the sides of her nose and a tiny bit right below her lip.
Next I used the highlight foundation (similar) under her eyes, down the side of her nostrils, on the bridge of her nose and the center of her forehead.
Then I tapped some warm pink cream blush (similar)into the apples of her cheeks
Using the Stila In the Light Palette I dusted Sunset into her crease with a fluffy brush and then with a smaller brush added a littler more color with sandstone to deepen the crease, sweeping it under her eye at the lashes as well and then highlighted her brow with Kitten. Next I used a liquid liner I lined just her top lid right near the lash line and a heavy coat of mascara.
And of course, filled her brows with an angled brush and some Brun.
I then, lined her lips with NYX Nude Truffle and filled them with Lip Tar in Hush.
To finish I set the makeup with a little bronzer and some setting spray.

Sorry, but this picture is overly-photoshopped – revealed bu the details of her hoodie. I don’t see a reason for this move, Cara. Your makeovers are always great..

Hmmm. As a photographer I do a LOT of photoshopping and I can’t see what you’re referring to in her hoodie. If anything, she may ha e been in a little different light…light changes throughout the day, even inside a house.

I m glad you voiced your opinion because I am actually really incredulous about makeovers and their use of photoshop, since I think it completely misses the point of showing off the makeup skills to do so I am really particular about it. I do use photoshop to adjust lighting if it was indoors but whatever I do to one photo I do to the other, unless of course the lighting changed like Nicole mentioned (which does happen over the course of an hour) On my before and afters I don’t use any blurring or bandaid-ing. I am happy for any photoshop whiz to examine my B&As for any alterations:)

She’s gorgeous! I don’t think she looks like Santana from Glee though. She looks so much like Catherine Giudici from the Bachelor. (From Sean Lowe’s season, the girl he chose.) Have fun in NY!

Speaking of gobs… are we going to get that tutorial when you get back from NYC?

I am jealous! You’re going to Fashion Week…congratulations. I am a New Yorker who has never been to Fashion Week although I keep dreaming of going. On GCoupon, there was an offer to buy regular tickets at $195, the VIP tickets were close to $300. If I had the extra spending cash. BTW, I love your work as a make up artist. I keep spending $$ to buy all the stuff you recommend…I am similar to an addict…I’m a beauty/make up addict. I just can’t get enough. Can you do my make up while you’re here. How much do you charge? I am sincerely interested. Another BTW, I started using Algenest, after trying a 10-day sample from Sephora. It tightens and smoothes skin, make skin look toner, brighter, younger. Have you used it? I love how my face/skin looks and feels. P.S. Let me know about the beauty make up. Warmest, Glorya

Hi Cara, after going through a divorce 2 years ago, lack of sleep and care for skin developed bags under my eyes. I have tried many concealer techniques and yet always have bags under my eyes, even more obvious when I have makeup on. any other suggestions? PS love your blog as I have no idea about makeup!

I love your blog and the makeovers are amazing and so inspiring, however this after pic looks photoshopped as the whites of her eyes are super white in the after shot. Have you used that airbrushing app on this? Loving your work though I’ve learnt a lot from your techniques!! x
