My Life Tips & Tricks

Just lovely.

This has easily doubled my instagram joy. Following all 9, thanks.
I went to Lululemon for the first time yesterday. The prices scared the bajeezes outta me! Are these stretchy pants really that much better than the ones I usually get from TJ Maxx? Really, I need to know.
After seeing this, I have begun to believe I need an ice cream maker.
Albion fit sent me this incredibly cute swim suit, I wore it yesterday and like 4 teenage girls at the pool told me it was sooooo cute. It made me feel cool. Use code maskcara20 for $20 off any order over $50!
H&M decided to ship online. It’s like they were reading my mind! (this sweatshirt in particular is totally wearable)
Um…why are these pants only 20 dollars? And why in glory do I not just get them instead of putting them in my cart and looking at them for days at a time?
Maybe you’ve all seen this video but it made my day the first time I watched it, and hasn’t lost it’s luster yet.
And I’m majorly crushing on Selena’s hair in this video. I think I I’ll try it out today in fact. (I’ll post a photo on insta if it works)
starfish story

β€œWhile wandering a deserted beach at dawn, stagnant in my work, I saw a man in the distance bending and throwing as he walked the endless stretch toward me. As he came near, I could see that he was throwing starfish, abandoned on the sand by the tide, back into the sea. When he was close enough I asked him why he was working so hard at this strange task. He said that the sun would dry the starfish and they would die. I said to him that I thought he was foolish. there were thousands of starfish on miles and miles of beach. One man alone could never make a difference. He smiled as he picked up the next starfish. Hurling it far into the sea he said, “It makes a difference for this one.” I abandoned my writing and spent the morning throwing starfish.”
― Loren Eiseley

I just love that story.
Sometimes I feel such a heaviness because of everything I can’t do. This story makes me feel lighter.
Have a good day today.
I hope you know how much I appreciate you guys and how you remind me everyday how many amazingly kind and generous women there are in the world.

The only thing I splurge on from Lululemon is the ta-ta tamer sports bra…because I’ve got breasts and lots ’em! The stretchy pants are just stretchy pants πŸ™‚ But its a fun atmosphere to shop in!! I loved the starfish story and the coca-cola commercial!! Two inspiring ways to start my day!! Thank you!

We have a problem Cara because I am running out of adjectives to describe your blog when I gush to my friends about you! Thank you for always being awesome and cutting through the bullshit in short precise links and oh so inspiring videos. That coca-cola vid brought a tear to my eye. I REALLY hate to say it, but Lululemon really does make the best stretchy pants out there. WAAAAY better than what you get at TJ Maxx. I would rather have one pair of Lulu “Wunder Under” pants than 4 pairs of TJ Maxx style. Did you try them on?

I’m going to go against the grain and say that I’m not a fan of Lulu’s pants. I LOVE Love love my scuba jackets, there is nothing like them!!! But I have honestly found that Costco carries a knock off pant with the same cut and stitching in a WAY better material… for $24.99.
My besties are full on Lulu addicts, but I’m slowly bringing them to the other, less expensive, better quality side.

I’ve heard the starfish story before, but it was great to hear it again and be reminded that even if I only accomplish 1 out of 100 things on my to-do list, I better do one that makes a difference for someone else. A sticky note on my computer reminds to me to leave everyone I meet a little better off than they were when I met them.

You do need an ice cream maker! Basic models are surprisingly inexpensive. My boyfriend’s mom got us one and it’s the best. I immediately pinned that recipe and if I’m good with my eating this week I will definitely be making it soon! I feel like I’m constantly putting affordably priced Asos things in my cart and abandoning them. That’s the problem with online shopping I think.

YES!! Lulu prices are outrageous but once you own something from there, you’ll know why. The winder unders are fabulous!! A lot of them come reversible too so you get two pairs of pants out of it! But they are built to last, they don’t stretch out and get loose in the knees and butt like a lot of cheap leggings. When I got my first pair, I wore them 5 days straight and didn’t want to take them off to wash them! Haha, it’s bad but that should tell you!

Lulu stuff is seriously worth the splurge. Especially the workout pants. My fave are the inspire crops for workout and I wear the Groove pant all the time because they are so comfy and look so good. Totally worth the money. I get their emails every week which links up to their website and always check the “we made too much” section and have found some pretty good deals. But be careful, their clothes are completely addicting!!! So cute and so functional!! But I think a heroin addiction might actually be less expensive….:)

Lululemon is… not worth it. 3 years ago I would have said yes, absolutely, Lululemon is amazing, go drop $98 on stretchy black pants. Everyone who is saying they’re insanely durable is right! My pants from 2008-2010 are still amazing, but my more recent purchases (2012) have been disappointing. The quality of the pants has gone down significantly and the pants pill like crazy if your thighs touch at all (which may not be a problem for you, you gorgeous, skinny, amazing lady!). I’ve switched over to Zella, a brand made by Nordstrom — they don’t pill, they’re not see-through, I can find everything at Nordstrom, and the fabric quality is much better.

I still like Lulu tops though — the cool racerback is great, I even wear it under sweaters if I need to layer. They’re simple and comfy, the price is right if you can find them on sale.

Completely agree. LLL used to be the best. But lately their quality has dropped drastically, and their customer service has followed suit. They also don’t ship to FPO which is where we are stationed which is another knock. I really like athleta by GAP. Still pricey but slightly lower than LLL. My favorite crops to take and teach yoga in right now are the tangram capris and they’re on sale!

In the post your wrote about people would look at you and think you weren’t wearing makeup and then I remember you saying “but that never happens to me”. I know it had a video in it. I know in the video you talked about the ‘t-zone’ too. I loved that post and should have pinned it and now I cannot, for the life of me, find it! Any help would be appreciated. Lululemon-pants not worth it. I have discovered the Old Navy’s Yoga pants are great have 3 pairs for over a year-no pilling. The only thing is they have seams in the middle of the leg. Another place to find great yoga pants is
discount dance.com. These pants originally started as warm -ups for dancers. I have been wearing pants like for over 15 years and I have gotten plenty over the years from here.

I am a very picky buyer and don’t buy expensive things just because of the “name.” However, as a runner, I had been searching for something that wasn’t so boring and “sporty” looking. I stumbled onto Lululemon about 3 years ago and haven’t look back. The “fit” of the Lulu clothes for a woman’s body is the best out there hands down, in my opinion. Function is probably comparable to others, but still better than most. Style is also heads and tails above the competition, although some brands are catching up. Finally, quality has historically been unmatched by other brands, but this has gone downhill dramatically in the last year and its subsequently very hit and miss. However, Lulu is now is returning to the old quality they’re known for, you just have to carefully inspect items to be sure it meets your standards before you buy. Lulu stands behind their product, so if you have any quality issues, you should be able to return your item and get your money back. In addition, many Lulu items can be resold for the price you bought or more, which is unlike other brands. I rarely “lose” money on Lulu items I resell on Ebay. Once you figure out your size and items that would get the most wear out of, you can watch Lulu’s “We Made To Much” section, or just invest in 1 of each of those items and gradually build up a small Lulu wardrobe. My suggestion for you to check out would be a few of the following: Wunder Under Crops; In The Flow Crops; Free To Be Bra; Cool Racerback; Short Sleeve Swiftly Tee; Om Pants; Dance Studio Crops or Pants; Scuba Jacket; Dance Studio Jacket.

I have a couple of lululemon’s tops and yoga pants and I know they’re expensive, but I think they’re totally worth it. I agree with a previous commentor that quality has been down recently, but the stuff I bought years ago is still just as perfect as it was originally – a plus for me as a tall girl, they will alter pant lengths for free when you buy them. I always end up buying the extra long pants and having lulu shorten them slightly. I’ve had stretch pants from target and other places and they just end up being see through within a year or so and my lulu pants have been around for 3 and still going strong!

A lovely post. I never take the time to click through links but I did on EVERY SINGLE ONE! Awesome stuff. I can see the lululemon battle rages on. πŸ™‚ It’s getting noisy but I’m throwing my two cents in too. I am a big fan of the cheap stuff as well. BUT…I love lululemon things so much that I am slowly (VERY SLOWLY) swapping out the cheap stuff for lulu stuff. I will invest in a couple of pieces a year – and they STAY on my gift list for any occasion! Here’s my personal run down – agreeing with much of the stuff already written. Scuba jackets – PHENOMENAL. It’s the only sportswear I have that makes me look BETTER. It cinches in at the waist – warms, breathes and gives you hourglass curves. I wear it whenever I can. Pants – though I love their casual pants – they DO pill a lot. The material is luscious – but my Nike pants still look brand new. Tough call there. Their running tights – I adore. Took me a while to convert but I am a true believer. They don’t rub or bind and once I got used to the different “compression” sensation over other running tights, they are my favorite. Yes – quality has suffered as they’ve gained popularity – but they acknowledge it so I hope it is being addressed. Sports bra – wow. I can’t say enough. I have worked through too many brands to list. I settled on one – but it was ugly! I always had to wear something over it, even in 90 degree weather because it LOOKED like I was running in my skivvies! I can’t even tell you which design I’m using – I tried on several and have three different styles I think – but lululemon sports tops are lovely. Feminine but with the structure you need. Best of all – they have pads in them – which is critical to avoid “high beams”. I’d recommend trying ONE thing. See what you think. It is pretty great!

Lululemon is worth it – TRUST ME!!! Your butt will never look better than in a pair of their pants!! Their fabric has a 4 way stretch which holds you in like Spanks would. I’m a personal trainer and its pretty much all I wear. I always check the sales rack first and once you know your size you can go to their website, click on “we made too much” and find items on sale. I also look on ebay all the time. Once you go Lulu you won’t go back! You owe it to yourself to get at least one pair, it will instantly boost our butt confidence!!! Also make boobs look great too!

After reading through all the posts I just thought I would add 2 things: 1) Do NOT use fabric softener or dryer sheets on Lululemon – it affects the wicking capability and greatly contributes to pilling. 2) Hang your Lulu to dry – no hot dryers to break down the elastic.

Must say, have NEVER regretted a lululemon purchase. As a Canadian, I’ve been using their products for just about 10 years and still wear many of the very first items I purchased. They’re pricy but the fit and quality is unmatched. HIGHLY recommend it all. But the “stretchy pants” (groove or wonder under) are a great place to start.

So I realize this does not at all pertain to this post, but I am running low on under eye concealer and I was thinking that you should do a DIY on how to mix up some of that amazing highlighting concealer you use! I LOVE it in your soft neutral makeup tutorial. Thanks πŸ™‚

I’m a new follower & I am so enjoying your blog! Thank you for your posts! And I must tell you that Lululemon is worth every penny — for yoga, running & just lounging around. You won’t believe the difference!

So I really liked that story, but what got me more was what you said after it. It might just be that I’m PMS-ing, but I almost cried!! lol

Lululemon is expensive, but most pieces are well worth the investment if you work out a lot. I have a preference for the Wunder Under pants and the daily yoga jackets. Their jackets are truly wonderful. And a previous poster was correct, keep watching the “we made too much” section. Also, the stores actually carry some things on sale that are not on the site or have a cheaper price than the sale items on the website.

Love your blog! Your post on blending eyeliner was a total game-changer for me. Just wanted to say, if you enjoy cats on instagram you should check out instagram.com/shimejiwasabi — a Japanese kitten that was attacked by a crow and its owner crocheted it a mushroom costume for it to be immobilized enough to heal. Seriously SO CUTE.

I came across your blog on Pinterest and I’ve read… Almost all of it. I can’t get enough! Your tutorials are so easy to understand, and based on your recommendations I’m slowly starting to compile a list of products that I’m going to check out. I can’t wait to start HAC-ing!! But I’m compelled to comment after reading this post, even though it could sound creepy… But you and your blog are my best makeup friend LOL Thank you for your posts, dedication, tips/tricks and for being so awesome to share them all!!

An attention-grabbing dialogue is value comment. I think that it is best to write extra on this matter, it won’t be a taboo topic but generally individuals are.
