Before & Afters Makeup

Yama – Monday Makeover

I was so excited to meet Yama. She is smart, funny and (as you can easily see) beautiful.
She is headed back to her Sophomore year of college next month so we thought it would be fun to get together before then and teach her some fun ways to spice up her look.
Beautiful makeover monday. Products for getting this gorgeous glow!

(side by side view)
She wanted so badly to get a “nude lip” and I tried probably 10 different lipsticks and glosses and none of them were the nude we were hoping for so I am still on the hunt!
but in the meantime this pinky nude (which actually photographed less pink than it was in person) looks gorgeous.

What I did:

First, her eyes.  I used  Lorac Pro Palette focusing around her peepers with Deep Purple and Garnet (which is a dark copper) on her lid above her pupil to the inner corner of her eyes. I love how the garnet made her eyes look so bright and sparkly! Next I lined her water line with Urban Decay 24/7 in Perversion and a added heavy coat of Benefit They’re Real mascara.
I filled her brows with Espresso, also from the Lorac Palette.
Tapped some Tarte Cheek stain in Tickled right in her apples.
I wanted to highlight to be very warm and only a couple shades lighter than her natural skin tone. If the highlight is too light or not warm enough it can tend to be ashy. I used Revlon Nearly Naked foundation in Cappuccino on her forhead, down the center of her nose, on her cheeks and under her eyes.  Then contoured her nose and her cheek bones with Sable (again, from the Lorac Palette..) and added a little shimmer by way of my Illuminating mix.
Finished her look with a mix of nude, pink and brown lip colors that I can’t even begin to remember, sorry…stay tuned on that:)
Hope you all had a lovely weekend and that you love this makeover as much as I do:)

Filling her brows totally pulled the look together. She is about my age and it makes her look like a model! Also your highlighting and illuminating never ceases to add that extra something! Awesome work Cara! And Yama, you are sooo pretty!

I might suggest MAC lipglass in C-thru. You can put it over anything and it is a milky color. Great with MAC lip pencil called Stripdown.

Thank you thank you thank you for doing darker complexion makeover! It really helps me find products that work for me! So many lipsticks, highlighters, especially for contouring do not work for my skin tone (making me feel pretty upset that I just can’t do it!!) so it’s incredibly helpful to have your help!!

Amazing how makeup can even slim your face..I think the “Nude” pinky lip was just perfect touch

Cara, I think I got you here! I totally understand the hunt for a nude lip!! Took me *forever* to figure it out. I’m medium-dark-skinned, only a tad lighter than your model. Getting a nude lip was one of those “beauty milestones” that avoided me until I had the epiphany of starting OFF with brown, a lip color that was nowhere in my makeup suitcase. Oh, I had everything else, including those products labeled “nude” that porcelain beauties can use. Brown was missing. So simple, and yet I don’t know why it took so long to figure it out:

I didn’t want to break the bank in this science experiment, so I hit the drug store and picked up about a dozen different brown makeup pencils, eye liners, lip liners etc and settled on NYX’s #821 “Brown Cafe” lip liner over the whole lip to create a flat uniform base (some dark beauties have different tones on their lips).

I then layer with a light coat of OCC’s lip tar in “Mein Herr” over most of the lip to bring in the nude, leaving the outer corners alone for depth. (Lip tar tip from the counter beauty gal)

A perfect finish is Buxom’s “Sabrina” lip gloss. (Tip from my BFF who loves Buxom)

For me, this is the perfect nude. It resolved that pink issue you mentioned, and is what also challenged me for so long. I use this when doing a dark or smokey eye and I love the balance. Good luck!

Have you tried using the E.L.F. Eyelid primer on the lips for a nude lip base? It’s kind of awesome.
