Makeup Jumpstart

I would say probably every year around this time I get a little complacent with my makeup.

You know, doing the same look everyday…that mostly consists of sweats and an ill fitting T and if any products make it on my face at all it’s sun screen.
When I do get fancy I have been doing the same old thing every time, for a while now.

I need to get out of my rut. I need a jump start. So I rounded up some very inspirational options to get me reaaaally excited about it.

Please feast your eyes one these beauties:

Love this makeup  gorgeous makeup

Do you guys have any others?
If so, I would LOVE if you’d link a photo! I gotta get some ideas for my first videos in my new (almost finished) office/makeup room/haven.
Also, if there have been makeup looks I’ve done but haven’t done a video for but you want me to, that counts as well:)

I have an off topic question that would be AMAZING if you could offer help….

I have scars on my arms from cooking, and can’t seem to cover them properly at all. I’m super embarrassed when I’m in tank tops and short sleeves as people stare. Do you have any recommendations on how to cover scars on your body rather than your face? It seems much harder to work with.

I did my first makeup “job” this weekend, and it was a bride and four bridesmaids. I was a nervous wreck, but used your vids to help me get ready. Have you ever done a bride or wedding tutorial video? If so, I must have missed it. Thanks so much for your guidance, Kara! I would be lost in bad makeup land without you. By the way, they were all thrilled with the highlighting and contouring I did – thanks to YOU!

I second the wedding video idea for bride and bridesmaids. I’m getting married in four months and my best friend/MOH will be doing my makeup. She’s really talented at applying makeup and I’m sure she’ll do a fantastic job, but she’s not a makeup artist and doesn’t do this for a living so I’m a little bit nervous. I would love to have a great video to send her.

I would love to see a bit of a minimalist post! While I LOVE your makeovers, I’m nuts over Mandi’s…..they are so transformational! I’m not sure I could ever wear that much with the contouring, the eyeshadow, the false eyelashes etc. I am a minimalist myself and at most I use light foundation, mascara, and some pretty natural lip color. I’m pretty certain I would look like unrecognizable with so much on. I think I would really enjoy it for a special occasion and say…YOU were doing it, but I know it would be too heavy handed for me on a daily basis! But I would love to know how to minimally enhance my features. Maybe eyeliner without the shadow, foundation with just a touch of bronzer, (have a Bobbi brown one but don’t know how to use it!). I am 52, still have great skin, but the eyebrows are starting to fade out and get gray, am very active and outdoorsy and need a look that suits my age and lifestyle!
But man oh man, what you do for these women….sensational! And I adore your generosity and willingness to share! Would love, even for a moment, to see what I would look like!

I second this request. I’m 24, and the most I wear everyday is mascara and bb cream. It’d be nice to change things up but still keep my natural “no-makeup” look. Please do something for the minimalists!

Yes! I want this too! I have very dark brown hair, blue eyes and pale skin. I also have red undertones. I feel like I am bright red when I wear no makeup. In fact, people ask me all the time if I am sunburned when I am not wearing makeup. When I do put on makeup I feel like it is so much. I’m not putting on a ton of makeup, I just feel like it looks that way.

I think a minimalist video from Cara would be great! Until she gets around to it, you should check out Lisa Eldridge’s videos. Her “no make up make up” look and some for her other daytime looks are really great for learning how to use makeup in a way that doesn’t look overly “made up.”

    1) I’d love to see a tutorial for applying false eyelashes. There are plenty out there but you have a way of making everything seem so much easier.
    2) Or tricks to keep my makeup from melting off. I had no problems in 104* heat in Vegas but the humidity out here just melts everything.
    3) I think a lot of people would love to see a tutorial on someone who was much darker or fairer than your typical beauty tutorial.
    4) I just stumbled onto this pin and want to know what is going on with her blush that makes it so glowy and awesome:
    5) If you rounded up a couple of girls (friends, consults, whatever) with very different face shapes you could talk about personalizing your contour.

I agree – the hat look is awesome! Maybe just because my coloring is similar, or maybe it’s because I grew up in a beachy place (San Diego), but I always feel more comfortable in a less ‘done’ face like that one.

I super duper love the look of your HACing, but on me it feels very much like a special occasion thing rather than one that’s ME. Not no-makeup or fully natural, exactly – Hat Girl is clearly wearing craptons of eye stuff! – but the overall effect is still so much less makeuppy, if that makes sense! Anything along those lines would be totally up my alley for the real me. 🙂 Thanks! Fully addicted to all this goodness of yours. 🙂

    Hey Cara,

I’m a writer and attend conferences etc and the days are long and grueling at times. I put make up on in the morning and go all day, then have to come back to my room, change and fix my make up for an evening event. Usually something important like an awards ceremony.

I am usually tired and my eyes look shot… I can’t seem to get that “fresh” face look in the evenings after these long days. Do you have tips for how to apply make up for the day and then the night?

I love make up but don’t have too many tricks or tools. I use Mary Kay for foundation and Bare Essentials for eyes and Revlon for my lips. They have a lip glaze/gloss I love.

    Thanks for all you do!

You look so stunning in every photo, I would love to see a tutorial on YOUR everyday go-to look. Your mommy makeup in less than 4 minutes has been my go-to everyday look for a couple of months now. I bought the Lorac Pro Pallet and would love to see more tutorials with those colors. Thanks so much and keep up the AMAZING work!!

I love the Lana Del Rey look, if you could do a video about that I’d be so happy! 😀

    1) I would love to see more tutorials with the Lorac Pro Pallet/ultimate makeup kit!
    2) A DIY Eye Makeup Remover, it is so expensive to buy and takes forever to get off at night using just soap and water
    3) For your Pinterest board: Jennifer Lawrence eye makeup, I love the one from the Hunger Games World Premiere red carpet

This HAS to be the best nude/natural look I’ve seen in a while. So fresh and beautiful. Show us the way, Cara!!

I loved your post on purple eye makeup (purpled – I believe it was called.) I would love to see a video on how to recreate it and to find out what purple you used on your bottom lashes. Thanks

    Hi Cara,
I love your blog. I’m a new Mom and love your quick and easy hair and makeup looks. For the longest time I just didn’t care about having to put makeup on everyday. But now I can just do the bare minimum and only spend a couple minutes and look presentable now everyday 🙂 I saw this on pinterest, I don’t know why i’m so into the blue lately but I love this look …
