My Life

I’m a seven.

With those three words I have told you everything you need to know about me.
My fears, my vices, how to get along with me or ruffle my feathers, what drives me and what makes me happy.
When my sister is describing her new friend or coworker to me it’s the first thing she’ll say, “She’s an 8.” Then I nod knowingly because I am a self professed expert of the Enneagram Personality code.
I know that many people (Nick very much included, he’s a 1 btw) don’t really enjoy being put in categories like this, but that’s why I like this code so much. There is so much individuality left to determine, the code is just meant to help you understand the basics of your personality the way it works with people around you (your spouse/significant other for instance) and how you can avoid pitfalls and recognize strengths.
The coolest thing ever! Much more insightful and helpful than any other personality type theory.

Here is a little about sevens from the 9types.com site (of course not all of it is a perfect match but much of it is spot on!)

Sevens are energetic, lively, and optimistic. They want to contribute to the world.(<—don’t we all though?)

How to Get Along with Me

Give me companionship, affection, and freedom.
Engage with me in stimulating conversation and laughter.
Appreciate my grand visions and listen to my stories.
Don’t try to change my style. Accept me the way I am.
Be responsible for yourself. I dislike clingy or needy people.
Don’t tell me what to do.
What I Like About Being a Seven

being optimistic and not letting life’s troubles get me down
being spontaneous and free-spirited
being outspoken and outrageous. It’s part of the fun.
being generous and trying to make the world a better place
having the guts to take risks and to try exciting adventures
having such varied interests and abilities

What’s Hard About Being a Seven

not having enough time to do all the things I want
not completing things I start
not being able to profit from the benefits that come from specializing; not making a commitment to a career
having a tendency to be ungrounded; getting lost in plans or fantasies
feeling confined when I’m in a one-to-one relationship

Sevens as Children Often

are action oriented and adventuresome
drum up excitement
prefer being with other children to being alone
finesse their way around adults
dream of the freedom they’ll have when they grow up

Sevens as Parents

are often enthusiastic and generous
want their children to be exposed to many adventures in life
may be too busy with their own activities to be attentive

Take the test yourself and tell me what you are in the comments, I’m so interested to know some of yours!

If I wake up and realize no one is into personality tests It’s gonna be a rude awakening, cause I have all of these hopes that I’ll be able to use this code from now on to describe everything and you guys will totally know what I’m talking about.

I assumed I might be a 7 too briefly reading the descriptions and turns out.. I was right! Heh. Yep you are right pretty much is spot on when describing myself although I never really have thought too much about what personality type I am. So true about the careers thing too, hard committing to a certain career! I’m nearly 25 and just now realizing what I want to do with my life and could never really commit long-term to any full-time job I had in my early 20s. Now I just wish I would have known this years ago but oh well! I still feel like I am 18 too! I hope I am not the only one who feels this way… hahah.

haha so here’s the thing about sixes, much of what is true about sixes in a less healthy six the opposite would be true. Does that make sense? SO it would be natural you have experienced both sides of many of the answers, but you are still probably a 6. Which is awesome and I love you:)

And 4 describes me pretty well. 5 is definitely up there… All I can say for sure is I am nothing like 6, 7, 8, 9, LOL!! I’m a 2, which surprised me. But I am OBSESSED with this kind of stuff. Have you read “Strength Finders”? It’s amazing and I think you would love it. It’s similar, but the concept is based on focusing on your strengths and how they can make you better/work well with others/etc.

I can see someone scoring the close on those because often I can’t tell if someone is a 2 or a 9, but ONLY if they are healthy, if not the difference is pretty obvious, so I am guessing you are very healthy:)

I’m tied between 4, 5, 9 – and 5 best fits me, I think. I am also surprised to see that there are not a lot of 5s – most people seem to gravitate towards 2, 4, 7, and 9. I would be curious to see if there are demonstrated gender divides in the general population!

Have you ever heard of the book It’s Just My Nature, by Carol Tuttle? I know there are a lot of ways to help figure out your personality and I’m always open to learning about others. The 9 types looks really cool, and so is Carol’s It’s Just My Nature. Her book the Child Whisperer has also done WONDERS for my parenting skills. Especially because each child is different and I parent specifically to my nature. It’s wonderful and I recommend it because it transfers over into what you wear and how you style your hair etc…she helps you figure out what looks best on you and helps you to be happy with it! I highly recommend it, and if you do read it, I would love to know what you think!!!!

I’m a 6, which I know my husband would most def agree with 🙂 If I had to guess, I can almost guarantee he’d be an 8. The unhealthy levels freaked me out a bit. Ha ha. At the beginning of the school year, I always do the True Colors Interest Inventory with my students. It may never be completely spot on, but the kids like it because it gives them insight on themselves (which teenagers ALWAYS love) and why it’s necessary to have each personality type to be a productive group — we each have our strengths and areas of need. I’m a 2-the Helper. All of the characteristics listed are amazingly correct. This is so interesting to me because when i aged out of foster care at 18, they made me go to a psychiatrist just for an evaluation(everyone had to do this.) He diagnosed me being co-dependent, which to me, is the potential “unhealthy” side of two. I also came in one point lower at 6-the loyalist. I pride myself on being independent now, but I was definitely a tiny bit co-dependent when i was younger lol

you should check out the book It’s Just My Nature by Carol Tuttle! It only has four types and is much easier (at least for me!) to understand! She basically talks about how everyone has a level of movement and also allows lots of individualism! She even has a dressing your truth program that helps you know how to dress based on your level of movement and I’ve really loved learning about that the most! Anyway, just an idea! Cade is a #9 and the compatibility says it is the most common pair and healthy for each other as I am the show and Cade is the audience, Bahaha!!! Thx Cara, love ya!!!

I’m a tie between a 2 (no surprise, I’m a nurse), 6 (also no surprise, stability and tradition are important to me), and and 8 ( which I know about myself and I’ve worked very hard over the years to be more of an inspirational leader than directive). I think the 2 and 6 balance out the 8. All three descriptions fit parts of me!

Mm, this is very interesting. I’ve always scored as a 5 (with a 4 wing) before, but the brief test just said I’m a 9. I’m the happiest now than I’ve ever been, am married to a wonderful 9 I’m deeply in love with, so maybe it’s that. This is the least cynical and most connected to my emotions I’ve ever been, as well as the happiest. Do happy 5s change into something else?

I’m a 9. After reading all of the others I would guess that my husband is an 8. lol. Very opposite, but also complimentary. “They tend therefore to teach each other what the other lacks: Eights bring Nines self-confidence and self-assertion, while Nines teach Eights which battles are worth fighting for and how not to push so hard. The Eight/Nine couple is thus like fire and water—an active force and a receptive force—that has an archetypal feeling about it.” So, so true! Thanks for sharing this Cara! 🙂

I’m OBSESSED with personality tests, although they always tend to frustrate me because I always seem to be multiple things. In this case I am a tie between a 4 and a 5.My frustration must have something to do with my 4 part of me that worries that I have no identity. haha Luckily though I appear to be a healthy 4!

I’m conflicted though, because I feel like I answered some of them by who I portray myself to be, some by who I feel that I am, and some by who I like to think that I am. ….. After taking this though I did do a Myers Briggs one and I scored an INTJ years ago. ….. But now it’s ISFP. Peculiar. I should probably redo them both.
