Makeup Tips & Tricks

Summer Red Lip

I’m a firm believer in dressing up for every occasion possible.
Fourth of July is no exception.
I did this look on Lacy the other day and fell in love with it. Today, I was gonna post about all about her extensions but I realized I better show you this first so you’ll have time to prep to be this sexy while you celebrate America. To all of my non-American readers, you’re still gonna look amazing and you can always celebrate “Red Lipstick Day” on July 4th instead.

Perfect summer red.
Tickled Blush | Wispies Lashes | Perversion Liner | Showstopper Lipstick | Clip-Ins

This look was so simple! First I HAC-ed (shocking, I know) using the tickled for her blush, next I lined her eyes (just in the inner rims) with black liner.
I added lashes that really made her eyes pop without having to use more shadow (cause I didn’t want it to fight with the lips). Next I lined her pout with this, (but any dark red liner will do) and topped them off with Showstopper. Then spray (my fav setting spray) to set it. If you’re like me and your teeth slightly jut out of your mouth you’ll probably want to check your smile a few times to make sure your teeth aren’t hogging all the lipstick. It really kills the drama:)

I’m flying to New York on Monday for my Allure photo shoot and I CANNOT WAIT! I’ll try to smuggle my camera into the backstage and get some inside info for you all. Vegas is supposed to be something like 11500000000 degrees this weekend so I’ll probably be hanging out by the sprinklers until my flight.
Happy Friday!

You have such great timing! I’m going to a 4th of July party tomorrow. I love the eyelashes. It really compliments the drama of the lips without distracting from them.

I’m so jealous of the extensions! I hate my hair cut and I’m going to lose a lot of length fixing it but thick red hair isn’t really compatible with the color matching and added volume from extensions.

Love it! I always find red lips so hard with my fair, freckled, ginger tendencies. I can’t ever seem to find the right shade. Someday, in the land of the awesome, I will come to Las Vegas and you will show me how to achieve all those fabulous looks I can’t ever seem to do.

Also – which setting spray do you prefer? The NYX Dewy or the Urban Decay All-Nighter??? I have the NYX and I really like it, but still have some issues with my nose getting slippery-looking. I wonder if the Urban Decay spray would perform any better, but I’m afraid to buy it until I’m out of the NYX.

You might try a “not quite red” red. Which shade would work depends on your undertones but I’m a fair redhead and I’ve found that a really pinky red (almost half way between hot pink and red) works best on me. They look hot pink in the tube and then read as red on my face. I assume that would work with super saturated corals as well.

I think since the weather has been ridiculously hot, we need a tutorial on hot weather makeup and hair! My face and hair get so greasy within hours.. It doesn’t make getting ready worth it when it’s this hot. Haha

Your friend looks so gorgeous especially with the right makeup and item. You are really a good makeup artist. It is so nice that her eye makeup did not overshadow her lips and overall makeup looks good as they complement each other. Showstopper is really good lipstick and MAC brick is totally cool to use.

Cara, I love your blog and follow your advice religiously. You are a genius! I’m 31 and have never worn lip color, usually just a gloss. But now, I think I need a bit of color but every time I buy one, I hate it- just feels so unnatural. How do you suggest choosing the right lip color? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I was wondering if you could talk a bit about SHAPES of eyebrows to try for different faces and TECHNIQUES for using pencils, etc. I have been changing my eyebrow routine up because of your awesome blog. But in the morning, I’m not quite sure about these two things.
