Makeup Tips & Tricks

Purpled. A little makeup inspo for your weekend.

Forgive me for keeping it short today!
I would give you some great excuse like: I’ve been crazy busy or I had to deal with a sick kid or something not ridiculous but the truth is, I stayed up practically ALL NIGHT last night… reading. Reading! When there are like a million trillion things I need to do and comments I should be addressing and posts that need to be written.
Instead I read the end of my book that I couldn’t put down and instead of going to bed after that I read like every single review for the book on Amazon. Cause obviously I need to read the book reviews now that I’m done reading the book. Very productive. So now I’m practically nodding off while I write and squinting just to see the screen.
It was Amanda Knox’s book in case you were wondering, it’s good. It’s also is a little scary which added to my lack of sleep. I spook easily.
I’ll make it up to you next week with a brow post that’s gonna knock your socks off.
What I used:
Blush: Maybelline Bouncy Blush in Fresh Pink
Mascara: Benefit They’Re Real!
Foundation: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 6.5 Tawny
Contour and base eyeshadow: L’oreal True Match Super Blendable Powder in Cocoa
Brows: Mac Eyeshadow in Brun
Lips: MAC Lipstick in Nicki 2
Under Eyeliner: Revlon Kajal Eye Pencil – That won’t be out til June DANG IT!
Top Eyeliner: MAC Liner in Teddy

Have a weekend filled with the reading/watching/doing of things that aren’t necessarily productive but do bring you joy:)

Very pretty and soft. I’ve been looking EVERYWHERE for that Revlon pencil ever since watching your allure video using it. Guess I’ll have to wait a bit longer :/

Ok unfortunately I have to admit that the Armani foundation is really in a class of its own at least from what I see. I love the liner and lips and all but soon as I saw your photo I thought “omg her complexion is crazy gorgeous, I wonder if she used the Armani again”. You have super skin anyway but it just gives you the smoothest pretty color and velvety texture. I really wanted to not like this foundation because I didn’t want to want it but if it looks half as good on me as it does on you… I guess I’ll have to request it for my bday which is at the end of July. May be I’ll go try it in sephora and hate it on myself and be freed of its temptation lol. Btw I personally never fault you for not posting every single day. You have a life and a family and I think you already give us so much so often I can’t imagine anyone expecting even more. I hope you never feel pressured by all of this attention and love.

Could you tell me what facial exfoliater you use? You mentioned in your self-tanning blog that your tan doesn’t last because you exfoliate nightly. I’m trying to find a good one and there are a lot out there! Thank you! Love your blog!

I cant wait for the brow tutorial. Also I had another suggestion. Could you do a “Basics w/ makeup” like where and how you put on blush and eyeliner. I never started wearing makeup till your blog and am still trying to figure out the “obvious” stuff 🙂 Thanks!

Can you do a tutorial on the eye makeup?? Love it!! I know we have to wait to get the Revlon eyeliner but at least we can be prepared! 🙂 Also, any ideas on drugstore dupes for the MAC Teddy eyeliner and MAC Nicki 2 lipstick? Thanks Cara, looking gorgeous as always!!!

I hate to ask you for anything, because I agree with the ladies above that you give so much, and have a real life to look after as well, so THANK YOU! But, if you’re in need for requests (I’m sure you don’t have enough already- ha!) I would love to see your hair routine now that you’re not blowing, and curling only 1x week. Do you wash at night? How do you do your pin curls, or whatever you do, that you mentioned earlier to get curl/volume. My hair is in the exact same place as yours, so naturally I’m very interested!!
    Best to you!!

First off your awesome and my face loves you for all the new tricks I’ve learned! But I have a problem with my makeup wearing off halfway through the day, kinda oily? I use the nars foundation and lumi concealer or Clinique depending but my question is do you use a powder of any kind to maybe help set it? I will try anything I want my makeup to last as long as possible! Thanks!

First off, I LOVE your blog and have been following you for almost a year now. There is just one thing that I have been thinking about lately– remember the post you did a few weeks ago about covering up your blemishes when you have pale skin? And your solution was sunless tanner. I see how that can be a great thing, but what about those of us who don’t WANT to use sunless tanner? What about those of us that love rocking our beautiful porcelain skin? There must be something you can do to help us proud pale girls out! I ama convinced that girls like Anne Hathaway and Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning have to cover up an occasional blemish, so there must be a way! 🙂 Help a sister out!!

Me too! And while sunless tanner is good for my legs (so I don’t blind people walking across the street), I also like to go with my lighter skin. If you have a pinky undertone like me, I’ve been covering them up with bobbi brown corrector in light to medium bisque (matches y skin tone perfectly, bein pinker and all that). I know I’m supposed to counteract red with green, then use a color neutralizing color like yellow, but this stuff covers up EVERYTHING, and in one step! Kat von D’s concealer does the same thing, (another highly pigmented concealer), as well as Benefit’s erase paste.
      But that’s just me.

      Love the blog Cara! 😀
I’ll admit I’m not loving the lips (not a pastel lips kinda gal) but your purple makeup is GOREGOUS!

Also, I think it would be awesome if you did a makeup tutorial geared towards those of us with pale skin and dark hair (that doesn’t include sunless tanner, lol) What colors do you recommend?

I wanted to leave a quick comment! I can’t even tell you how darn excited I am. First of all, so thankful it was not caught on video tape… because I did the most ridiculous happy dance when I opened my door to see that I was a winner of the voter prize on the the Allure Beauty Blog contest!! I am seriously the most unlucky person when it comes to winning ANYTHING!! Thank you so much for being so darn good at what you do and making me WANT
to take the time to vote.. prize or not. You deserve the recognition. Your blog is my new obsession! Thank you!! I am also the crazy stalker that talked to you a couple weeks ago at the lovely SWIG in St. George. I’ve never felt such like a creepy person 🙂 I knew all about you… and I felt like I should have apologized for stalking your blog like I do.. ha ha. Anyway, THANK YOU!

OMG that’s awesome!!! Congrats! What did you win? I am a bit confused though, their voting sweetstakes say all the weekly and grant prize winners won’t be selected until June 1st. Or is that only for the grand prize?

      4. WINNER SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION. Winner selection will be conducted by random drawing from all eligible entries on or about June 1, 2013 (the “Drawing Date”).

I stumbled upon your blog the other day….then proceeded to take the next 6 hours watching tutorials reading posts, and making lists of everything I need to pull these looks off. Your blog is wonderful, I keep looking for more! The thing that separates you from others is your personality shines through, as someone who just started a blog it is even more that I can learn from visiting your blog.

I have to second some of the other comments. Yes, it would be AWSOME to see a tutorial on this makeup. Everytime I try to put a thick smoky looking liner on the bottom I just look like I have black eyes or something =). I’m also curious on how you do your hair without blow drying or using a curling iron or flat iron. Thanks for everything you do!

Gosh you are a gorgeous thing! Love the colour. Im not brave with using too much colour….bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to make up.
Anyways, the reason Im finally commenting mostly is to let you know about this hair thing you can do. I have fragile hair too, and Im so time poor in the morning (I have 2 kids and I start work at 5am) that anything I can do which cuts down styling time is a big bonus for me. So I found this side blog from Aunie Sauce, where she does curls with no heat. Here is the link.

When you watch it you will understand what I mean when I say that I wind the remaining two lengths of hair forward tucking them in between the others pieces, otherwise the curls are too ‘tight’ for me.

    Hope it helps.
