Spring fever, as usual.

First things first!

Winner of the spectacular Karastase Hair mask is…..
Erin Rump! (email me your address at [email protected])
Congrats! And thank you to everyone who entered, I totally love you for it.

Ok on to the post…

I start getting spring fever as soon as I put the Christmas Tree down.
Once Christmas is over winter is just cold, it has nothing left to offer me.
Which is why I have been on a hunt for a cute suit.

A one piece.

Not because I don’t love bikinis, I adore them and there are FAR more of them to choose from at much more reasonable prices.
The problem is, the majority of my swim time is done with a two year old, a very curious two year old who thinks nothing of yanking the only strings that stand between me and public nudity.
The other thing is I am human and sometimes over eat or over drink soda which leads to being bloated which leads to something called bikiniphobia…

I just want an option that is a little more reliable this year.

  1. O dont think the top one is an option. first if you are as small chested, and as thin as the model …it looks horrible. Does nothing for her. If you are bigger, i think by how LOW this goes you will be falling out of it while playing with your 2 yr old..lol. looove the middle one, very pretty and practical.

  2. They’re all adorable, but I definitely love the J. Crew suit the best. It looks like the top of an evening gown! The peachy pink color would look fabulous with your new blond hair too :) Good luck picking one!

  3. You may want to stick to a suit with straps. I love the bandeau tops, but holding my little girl in the pool means her hands are right there and well… I love the look, but if you thought ties were trouble, just wait until there are no straps.

    • oops…now i have spent the 15 minutes browsing bathing suits…and thats just one site. lol I agree with you all about the straps, and its nice to have the option of removing it. i love the colour/bold pattern on the top one..but i am quite “flat” like the model and would have a big flat expanse of chest bone in that suit..lol. it doesnt come with any type of padding, just a shelf bra. I love the evening gown description of the pink one. :) And I love that a one piece doesnt have to look matronly. ;)

  4. Cara! I’m with you here. I have no two year old, but bikiniphobia is a problem of mine. I live in the UK but still couldn’t resist all of the swimsuits at Black Milk from Australia. They’re really simple, flattering cuts with really quirky designs – definitely worth adding to your browse list :) I got this one (in February – mid winter!) and love it… http://blackmilkclothing.com/collections/swimsuits/products/galaxy-purple-swimsuit

  5. For my recent trip to Jamaica with I bought three one-pieces from ASOS, they have so many cute options. When I got the package in the mail and showed them to my husband he was a little hesitant (what man doesn’t want his wife in a bikini vs. a one-piece) but when I tried them on he was sold. He thought they were sexier than my bikinis! Go for it! I was much more comfortable especially after a week of overindulging!

  6. I purchased a suit from Macy’s 2 years ago that’s very similar to the JCrew one. I love it! Super comfy & flattering & you don’t have to worry about kiddos untying anything!!

  7. Wow love the pink one!! I’m so glad you posted this! Having had 2 kids within the past 2 1/2 years I was dreading “bikini season”. Your posts always leave me a little happier after reading. :) You’ll look great in any of them, have fun!

  8. Thank you Cara! I love LOVE your blog and ideas. I feel prettier already for the things you have taught me since I found you via Pinterest a few weeks back! Thanks for sharing busy mom life with us :)

  9. The J. Crew suit in guava is timelesss and will hide a multitude of figure flaws. The the color is amazing and can be worn with a skirt, a scarf, or a wrap and sundress. Sandles and jewelry can complete this look in so many ways and work into so many different pieces. It could be the one staple for your vacation carry-on with a few skirts, a sweater, a pair of sandles and flip-flops, and a beautiful scarf. There’s no reason to check luggage again!

  10. I am so excited and full of anticipation for your hazel eyes posts! As far as the bathing suits are concerned I’d like to respond in MFK fashion… :-) 1st suit- K 2nd suit- F & 3rd suit M
Hope you find the perfect one! All three are lovely though :-)

  11. Cara, check out Hapari.com. They have THE CUTEST tankinis ever. Long enough to cover your tummy but soooo flattering. Once I bought one of their suits I have never bought another brand and I probably never will…they are THAT awesome!

  12. i like the first one & jcrew one best! how tall are you, cara? im not that tall (5′ 7″) but i have a super long torso so i can never find a one piece that fits me. not sure if anyone else around here is shaped like that…but id love to hear any suggestions for where to shop for a one piece that the boob-covering area doesnt land at my upper rib cage lol

  13. i love the swimsuits you picked out! you’ve got me wanting a one piece this year and i don’t even have kids! lol!

may I also add a request for a grey eyes tutorial? or would that be too similar to the blue? as much as i want to believe my eyes are blue, they really are more grey and i have a hard time finding ways to make them stand out and not look so boring. :( love your blog!!

  14. Love the first one! I may have to order that one myself! Sidenote–wondering if you would do a few eye tutorials using the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palate? :) Thanks for all your awesome tutorials! You have totally helped me figure out how to do beautiful makeup.

  15. Go with J Crew. I bought my first one piece there after baby #2 last summer. The fit is great and they are super cute. Added bonuses: the price isn’t jaw dropping & they come in long torso. Not sure “long” is something you need, but the last thing I needed was front to back wedgie while chasing my two year old on the beach.
