Perfect Foundation. Day One: Skin Care

I have had a ton of questions about what I use for skin care So of course I will tell you anything you want to know.
I am not an esthetician or a dermatologist, my knowledge of skin care is just what I have found works well for ME. Everyone has different skin so here we go…

That said, here are my top 3 tips for good skin:

3. Use sunless tanning products!
Even if your still a sucker for the real thing. Using some bottled up “sun” along with the taboo tanning will deepen the dark and extend the tan. Self tanners have come a long way and I KNOW you guys don’t want to look 60 when you are 40!

2. Clean your makeup off at night, every night, no exceptions.

If you are like me, by the time you are ready for bed you are TIRED. It is all you can do to brush your teeth and zombie walk into your covers, the last thing you want to do is wash your face. Here are two ways I combat this issue: I wash my makeup off BEFORE I get tired. Or for my last chance, fail proof plan, keep facial wipes next to my bed.

1. MOISTURIZE!!! Seriously.
After (or during) the terrible teen breakouts some of us (me included) are left with a deep dark fear of oily or otherwise heavy moisturizers. In our heart of hearts we believe that same oil is the cause of all of those blemishes, blackheads and …oily t-zones. In my life this has been a case of fighting fire with fire. When I saw that I had a wrinkle forming near my eyebrow at the tender age of 25, I let go of all of my fears of blemishes and started slathering on my moms favorite anti-wrinkle, hard core moisturizer. The shocker was that my skin has never been better! Fewer blackhead. Fewer blemishes (I hate the word zits, can you tell?) AND most shocking of all, less oily, more radiant skin. So try it. Even if you don’t believe me.

Neutrogena and Olay both make an oil free facial moisturizer that works great and won’t cause clogs or break outs.

Loving your blog! One thing I would add that younger women such as yourself might not consider (I’m 55).. don’t tug or pull hard on the eyelid and under eye area when you apply makeup or wash your face. A friend of mine taught her daughters this when they were younger (they are in their upper 40s now with beautiful skin). Wish I had known this way back. That area does not have much elastin in the skin and over the years if a lot of pulling or tugging has happened, you’ll find that the skin does NOT snap back into place. So, GENTLY wash that area and don’t pull too hard when applying liner or shadows. Unfortunately, it does catch up at some point. Washing that makeup off at night tho, that’s the biggie. I was a hippie back in the day. Tons of makeup and partying too late to bother to wash it off. UGH.
